THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD
Pastor Roger Anghis
The church today is a very weak example of what the church is supposed to be. Most of the churches today give s very weak sermon that is not even relevant for our time. Scripture is quite clear about the authority of the believer. I’ve heard some people say that we shouldn’t talk down the devil because he might hear us! Really? Good! Then he knows who’s in charge and it isn’t him. We, as the Body of Christ, have been given all power over the enemy. Jesus tells us in Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
(18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” This means that there isn’t a whole lot the devil can do to us IF we resist him. Therein lies the problem. Resisting him. We are told in James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” But there is a stipulation here, Submitting ourselves to God. Most people in the church don’t want to do that. Most preachers don’t preach the importance of submitting to God.
When we fully understand the power we have we can have a better outlook life. Understand that everything that God did He spoke it first. The first chapter of Genesis is full of ‘and God said’ followed by ‘and God saw’. What did He see? Everything He said. That is His way of doing things and that is how we do things. We accept Christ by saying we accept Him. We have to realize that it is our words that effect our lives. I have a relative that would always say that he would have a heart attack by the age 40 and he did. I know people who continually speak about the sickness in their body and they never get well. There is always something wrong with them. Our words have power but when we speak God’s Word we change things. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Very few have a revelation of that statement. We can speak blessing over our lives or we can speak curses over our lives. It is our choice.
A well-known minister in Chicago, Bill Winston, said this: “We, the Church, are wired to dominate this planet, to function without limits. This includes subduing disasters and causing terrorist acts of war to cease (Romans 8:6-8; Psalm 103:19)”. There is a condition here though. All this has to be done by faith. Faith has been given a bad name mostly by people who refuse to act in faith, those who can’t see how something can be done because they are looking through their own eyes and not the eyes of faith. If Moses would have done that the children of Israel would not have left Egypt, David would not have killed the lion and bear nor Goliath, Paul would not have accomplished anything at all. It is the key that opens the door.
Bill Winston went on to say: “Part of our inheritance is God’s ability. The Bible tells us, “The whole earth is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Why? We are the only ones with the blessing and faith operating in the supernatural power to fix anything that is broke. Our faith is the only thing that makes us dangerous to the devil.” God always spoke things into existence and He expects us to do the same. In Ezekiel God told him to speak to the dry bones, all the miracles done in Egypt were done by speaking them but most people don’t pick up on the fact that God had a man speak the words. That was because He gave man authority on this earth and it is man who has the right to speak things forth. God can’t! He can tell us what to say and He is the one doing the work causing them to come to pass, but we have to say it. In Joshua chapter 10 Joshua and the children of Israel were in a battle and night was coming and he commanded the sun to stand still and it did! I even heard Dr. Carl Baugh of the Creation Evidence Museum explain that this is a provable scientific fact.
The church today does not know the power that it has available to it. Most churches do teach it so they don’t exhibit it. Those that do preach it and exhibit it are called fanatics but the walk in something that most people know nothing about. We should believe in the power of God’s Word to heal. We read in Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” But most people scoff at churches that practice the laying on of hands for healing. I have seen it with my own eyes with one of my family members. Great things happen when you believe God’s Word AND act on it.
Am I saying that we can speak something into existence at will? If it lines up with the Word of God and we are living by God’s principles, yes! Can I call for a million dollars to appear in my hand? No, but I can call for divine connections that will generate a supernatural cash flow that will bring in a million dollars. We can ask for divine wisdom for our vocation that will put us in a position to be favored, promoted, and receive raises when no one else is getting anything. We read in Isaiah 45:3 “And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.”
Because we have this power available to us the devil will do everything he can to convince you that you don’t have that power. Remember in the Garden of Eden he convinced Eve that what God said wasn’t true. That’s what he has done to the church, convinced them that God’s Word isn’t powerful. Think about it. If it wasn’t powerful the devil wouldn’t have to tell you because it wouldn’t work anyway. But he works overtime to convince you that it doesn’t work which tells me that it does and we need to use it.
When the devil puts something on a born again believer we have the right to command it to leave, no matter what it is, a financial problem, a minor sickness or a life threatening illness. We have been given all power over the enemy: Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Notice is says ALL power over the enemy. That doesn’t mean that we won’t get attacked but it does mean that we will win the battle as long as we stay in faith and speak God’s Word concerning that situation. It is always our choice to stand and fight or give in. If you give in you will lose, if you fight you will win. It is our choice.
