DISPENSABLE TICKING TIME BOMBS
By Betty Freauf
October 15, 2003
"Dispensable Ticking Time Bombs" was a term coined by Jeff Rense www.rense.com on September 30, 2003 when he interviewed Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, author of the book PROZAC, Panacea or Pandora. She is also the Executive Director of International Coalition for Drug Awareness www.drugawareness.org. You can listen to the whole interview in Jeff's archives. Dr. Tracy is often called upon as an "expert" witness in cases where prescribed drugs are suspected of being the cause of school shootings, suicides, etc.
An opening quote in Dr. Tracy's book says: Dr. Candace Pert, Research Professor at Georgetown University Medical Center and past head of the brain chemistry department at the National Institute of Health, a position she served on for 13 years, sounded an alarm about serotonergic medications on page 8 of TIME magazine, October 20, 1997 when she said: "I am alarmed at the monster that Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Solomon Snyder and I created when we discovered the simple binding assay for drug receptors 25 years ago. Prozac and other antidepressant serotonin-receptor-active compounds may also cause cardiovascular problems in some susceptible people after long-term use, which has become common practice despite the lack of safety studies.
"The public is being misinformed about the precision of these selective sertonin-uptake inhibitors when the medical profession oversimplifies their action in the brain and ignores the body as if it exists merely to carry the head around! In short, these molecules of emotion regulate every aspect of our physiology. A new paradigm has evolved, with implications that life-style changes such as diet and exercise can offer profound, safe and natural mood elevation."
David Brownlow in his recent article The Insanity of the "War" on Drugs says our decades long "war" on drugs has been a spectacular failure and thousands and thousands of Americans, who never hurt anyone but themselves, are wasting away in jails this very minute - for the same type of victimless drug "crime" for which Rush Limbaugh has been accused.
Because we have been living in a upside-down world the last few decades, when you pass a school that says it's a "Drug Free Zone," don't you believe it. It is probably just the opposite. Prescribed drugs are being used by thousands of children today from the sugar-coated cocaine they call Ritalin to Prozac, Zoloft and other drugs for all ages. In this Rense/Tracy interview it was reported last year in the United Kingdom 170,000 prescriptions of antidepressants for little children were ordered. The number of children prescribed antidepressants in the U.S. has not been divulged although in 1998 a survey commissioned by the F.D.A. found that Prozac alone had been prescribed to infants 3,000 times.
Dr. Tracy said she's seen a baby as young as one month on these drugs. Rense believes this is a child endangerment felony at the very least. But let the police pull a family over and find their child is not in a proper seat restraint and they get a ticket. Or worse yet, try to spank your child and you could end up in prison. But destroy them with prescribed drugs and you're just being a good parent.
Recently I heard the story of a little six year old who got leukemia. The doctor put her on chemotherapy. The parents did research and determined the chemo would destroy her heart and kill her before the leukemia so they tried to get her off the chemo. The State of Oregon stepped in and said the child belonged to them and they would continue the chemo or else. The child died -- not from the leukemia -- but from heart problems just as the parents felt might happen. The marriage license automatically gives the state control of the kids.
Now I see the pharmaceuticals are advertising drugs for Adult Attention Deficit Disorder and the slick marketing campaign portrays the "disorder" in such a way that suggests every one and their dog could have it. Many older people simply laugh and call it a "Senior Moment". Dr. Tracy says its the drugs that are causing dementia, Alzheimer, etc. at untold precedented rates. Dr. Candace Pert warned us in the TIME magazine article in October 1997 and yet people are still having them prescribed by their doctors. Dr. Tracy says many patients call them "I don't give a damn drug." This switches them off from reality and accountability. I am reminded of the song, "Stop and world and let me off."
These drugs for many are a panacea, that is, until reality sets in and they become addicted and psychotic. Ask Andrea Yates from Texas, who drowned her children while on these drugs and is now serving a life sentence in prison, if it was worth it?
And then we have Kip Kinkel, a troubled 15-year old from Thurston High School in Spingfield, Oregon who killed his parents, both teachers who didn't believe in spankings but didn't hesitate putting him on these drugs. Then he went to school on May 21, 1998 with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle under his trench coat and started shooting. Now mental health agencies are seeking an appeal of his sentence saying he is schizophrenic and can be treated, reformed and returned to society when he is no longer considered a threat. His lawyer said in August 2002 he could be O.K. for release in 25 years.
And because these ticking time bombs could at any time kill many kids in school, parents, siblings or their own children as Kinkel, Yates and other mothers and young boys have done, it is important that every one educate themselves about these drugs. School shootings are becoming so common that often they don't make the headlines in our local papers. Dr. Tracy reported there had been three more school shootings in three days the week before her interview. I don't recall seeing anything in our paper. Dr. Tracy said another man killed his family and is now on death row. He was on these dangerous drugs.
Years ago we never heard of the medical condition called bipolar. I begin to wonder if it is just an excuse or if there really is such a thing. For example, in our local paper in April 2002 it mentioned a habitual thief got an 8-year sentence because she stole from friends and employers and she blamed it on being "bipolar." Does anybody ever wonder why every third person we meet today is bipolar? These drugs produce psychosis - mania - bipolar.
Dr. Tracy in her interview told of a study on bipolar depression which indicated that there was a high rate of diabetes among bipolars and the study admitted they've known for decades that all mental illness is blood sugar related. So Dr. Tracy asks, "Why should we be surprised to find a high rate of diabetes among those who have it?" According to Dr. Tracy, often times simply removing sugar from the diet will cause the problem to be cured.
She also stated that those on Paxil have up to a three times greater rate of suicide, violence, self mutilation, psychosis or medical damage and then asks, "Can you imagine giving that to a child - a baby?"
A hospital intake nurse called as I was drafting this article. She estimates 75% of the people coming to her hospital often requiring surgery or some type of treatment they caused to themselves are on antidepressants.
The Florida Forum News in 1999 indicated the federal trough had been very good for the pharmaceutical industry who, already at that time, were targeting the tots! On May 29 2002, Peter Jennings on ABC had a program titled "Bitter Medicine." He indicated pharmaceutical companies have more registered lobbyists in Washington, D.C. than our combined 535 elected officials.
A CBS story in December 1999 told how researchers are sworn to secrecy when they contract with drug companies. The scientists are muzzled. The drug companies allegedly go on personal attacks according to the story. Universities are making money so they won't back up their researchers if drug companies threaten lawsuits.
Dr. Tracy says the F.D.A. is now calling for all studies ever done with these drugs on children so they can review them and they are going to hold hearings but "It's a little late," she says and she referred to an article she wrote for the Salt Lake Tribune & Desert News in July 1997 or 1998 titled, "The next generation of medical guinea pigs - Our Zoloft, Prozac and Paxil Babies."
Couple this with the fact that the Greek Concordance 5331, 5332 and 5333 ties pharmakia, pharmakeces and pharmakos in with sorery and witchcraft should give people much concern. Anyone interested in what the bible has to say about sorcery, check Rev. 22:15, Rev. 21:8 and Rev. 9:21.
I know that some prescription drugs may be a "must" and/or considered life savers; however, these antidepressants are very dangerous and habit forming as set forth by several guests on the Rense program.
Matthew James in his 1998 book Homeschooling Odyssey said a case was made that our civilization would actually disintegrate if the pill factories stopped production because an unbelievable quantity of antidepressants are prescribed daily. Mary Starrett confirms this fact with her article A Nation of Zombies.
But the continual warning during the Rense/Tracy interview was, if you are taking these drugs DO NOT TRY TO QUIT COLD TURKEY. Don't even think about it. Dr. Tracy will tell you how to get off them gradually. What seems to be lacking in prescribing these drugs is a "full informed consent". The doctors don't seem to warn their patients either because they don't know themselves about the potential dangers, they don't think it is important enough or some may not want to scare the patients. How many times has a doctor read the warnings signs to you? Not everyone has a Yearly Guide to Prescription Drugs on their book shelves although the book is readily available in all book stores. You can order Dr. Tracy's book, "Help! I Can't Get Off My Antidepressants" at 1-800-280-0730. She also has an audio available.
The first guest on the Rense show was from Grant County, Washington. His son was put on these drugs. He was a 17-year old kid, in the Eagle Scout program, a jock and head of his young men's church group. He'd never been in trouble. The drugs were making him sick. Then the doctor switched him to another drug with similar side affects. One day he was sick to his stomach. He was nauseous and dizzy so while his mother went off to her substitute teaching job and his dad to do farm work, he said he was going back to bed. As though he was sleep walking, he later got the heirloom rifle his granddad had given him at age 12 and got the bullets off the shelf and drove himself to school. Fortunately, he ended up giving up the gun to the principal before anyone was killed. The good Lord was watching out for him. When asked what happened, he said, "I don't know." With the exception of the criminal charges against him, he fortunately did not end up killing someone. He spent 14 months in juvenile detention and with Dr. Tracy's help, he was slowly weaned off the drugs, and he's doing fine now. He told his girlfriend he thought he was losing his mind but he didn't tell his folks. He was too embarrassed.
Donna Taylor and her son, Mark - the Columbine Miracle boy - were also guests on the Rense program. Mark laid in front of the Columbine cafeteria for 1 1/2 hours waiting for help. Both of his lungs were collapsed from 7-13 bullets and no body knows how he survived except he prayed that God would send someone to rescue him and God answered his prayer. A policeman disobeyed orders and got Mark out and to a hospital. He later contacted Mark to make sure he was the boy he rescued and he told Mark he got fired for disobeying orders and indicated that everything was corrupt and then he disappeared and the Taylor family hasn't seen him since.
Because the boys who did the shooting were on these drugs, Mark later sued the pharmaceuticals and court testimony revealed that the police knew several hours in advance of the possible shooting. However, Mark was taken to the judge's chambers along with the attorneys for the pharmaceuticals and they and the judge convinced him if he didn't sign the settlement agreement and agree to a gag order, he'd end up in court, lose everything and possibly go to jail. It was not clear in the interview where his attorney was. His mother was not allowed in the room when Mark was coerced into signing. Now the court proceedings are in the midst of possibly being destroyed -- court records that other lawsuits are counting on. The father has since left the home. He could not longer take the stress. The family does not have the funds to fight the "big guys" any longer. They are looking for help.
And so goes the ongoing saga of people on antidepressant drugs. Caveat Emptor - buyer beware.
