THE MISSION OF CONGRESS - A STARK REALITY

Now don�t laugh when you read the following quote, because this is an actual statement that was made by an actual, living member of Congress - a big shot member at that:

�The mission of the Congress, as laid out in the Constitution, is stark: Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote general welfare, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.�

Ordinarily, we would applaud such a concise summary of the severe limitations our Constitution has placed on the powers of Congress. However, when Denny Hastert, the Speaker of the House, made that statement at the opening of the 109th Congress, it sent chills up my spine.

What should terrify everyone who reads Mr. Hastert make the above statement is that Mr. Hastert has obviously studied the Constitution and is able to summarize it concisely.

Other than a possible misuse of the ambiguous �general welfare� term from the Preamble, Mr. Hastert was able to clearly state the few legitimate functions the Constitution authorizes the federal government to perform. He demonstrated a clear understanding that instead of possessing unlimited powers, the Constitution places strict limits on the powers Congress.

So far so good. One would hope that the Speaker of the House has actually read the Constitution. Clearly, Hr. Hastert knows what it says.

Here is the scary part. Take a quick read through Mr. Hastert�s website at www.house.gov/hastert. You will find that there is virtually no new law or program he has proposed that falls under the authorized powers of Congress. Further, even a cursory review of his eighteen-year Congressional record will show that Mr. Hastert has absolutely no intention of ever obeying the law he so clearly understands!

This means that Mr. Hastert is willing to confiscate your wealth in order to fund any number of programs that he knows are completely illegal! There are a plenty of adjectives that would describe this type of behavior, but the word CRIMINAL is the one that comes to mind.

Ordinarily, when someone habitually breaks the law on such a grand scale, we would call him a career criminal. So if this were just a problem of the #3 man from the throne refusing to obey the law, we would simply arrest him and throw him in jail.

Unfortunately, this is a much bigger problem than the Speaker of the House refusing to obey the law.

The magnitude of the problem becomes apparent when we consider that 99% of those serving us in Congress have an equal contempt for the limits that have been placed on their power. They steal trillions of dollars from the American people every year for the express purpose of funding state programs that have no legitimacy in law.

Which means that our Congress has more in common with a vast criminal enterprise than it does anything resembling a legitimate governing body.

Denny Hastert got it right when he said, �the mission of Congress is stark.� The Constitution is not ambiguous about the limited powers that have been vested to Congress. The Constitution grants no authority for the federal government to:

� Heal the sick.
� Feed the hungry.
� Protect the baby killers.
� House the homeless.
� �Educate� the children.
� Care for the elderly.
� Regulate the guns.
� Build the roads.
� Print the phony money
� License the churches
� Fight the �war� on drugs
� Create the jobs.
� Fix the economy.
� Kill the Iraq�I mean spread the freedom.

Those in Congress who vote to spend money on any of the above programs are breaking the oath, they swore to defend the Constitution. They are also breaking the law. And until we are willing to hold these criminals accountable, this behavior is only going to get worse.

Now that the euphoria of the historic Republican electoral landslide is winding down, and now that they have a near total lock on federal power, we have the unique opportunity to view with clarity the true motives of the �moral values� party.

Unfortunately, if the priorities they have put forth over the first two months are any indication of what they have in store for us�

The next four years are going to be absolutely brutal!
