TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY PROPOSES OPENING US TO MEXICAN TRUCKS

I was just sent this disturbing news article this evening from a former colleague who also retired from the INS a number of years ago.

I want you to consider how wrong-headed U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is. His proposal to open up the United States to Mexican truck drivers has the potential to harm our nation on a number of levels. Let me sum them up with a list of “what is wrong with this picture:”

1. Our nation is supposedly determined to secure the border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico. If massive numbers of Mexican 18 wheelers are permitted to stream across our border, I am willing to bet that contraband will easily become part of the cargo on many of those trucks. Think back to Hillary Clinton agreeing with President Calderon of Mexico when he said that the reason that Mexico was in the throws of extreme violence because of the addiction of Americans to narcotics.

I have stated that actually there are three addictions involved. Admittedly far too many of our citizens suffer from a drug addiction (What is our government doing about this?) However, our nation is also addicted to cheap exploitable labor they get by intentionally hiring illegal aliens who are easy to take advantage of. Mexico also suffers from an addiction- Mexico is addicted to the estimated 20 billion dollars that is wired to Mexico, mostly by illegal aliens from that country who are working in the United States.

Mexico also receives billions of additional money that is otherwise sent from the United States to Mexico. They also export the potential for insurrection by making certain that millions of young able-bodied citizens go to the United States to work here, eliminating the risk that they might rise up against the corrupt government that makes it difficult if not impossible for them to adequately support their families by working inside Mexico. Today, Mexico's second or possibly first most important export is the citizens of Mexico. It is now estimated that at least 10 percent of all Mexico's citizens now live in the United States! This is why, as you may have noticed, when there is a presidential election in Mexico, the candidates come to the United States to campaign!

Here is the real question: if our country's goal is to prevent narcotics from being smuggled into the United States to fatten the bank accounts of the drug cartels, why in blazes would our government expedite the stream of large cargo-laden trucks to cross our borders and head for the interior of the United States when there is a great possibility- indeed probability that those trucks will be used to smuggle drugs, illegal aliens and, God forbid, weapons of mass destruction into the United States?

Anyone who cannot see the potential for those trucks being used to carry drugs or other contraband is either dumb or blind (or both)!

2. Why would our country be willing to permit Mexican truck drivers of unknown skill levels and professionalism to gain access to our country and the roads of our country, where the potential exists that they will not drive vehicles that meet stringent safety standards required of American truckers?

3. Why would our country be willing to permit Mexican truck drivers to do work American truck drivers need to do in order to support their families? With all of the talk about what aliens want, at what point will there be an honest discussion about what American citizens want?

If I could take out time from my Memorial Day weekend as did my friend and former colleague who was sufficiently outraged by the news article to provide you with this information, what are you willing to do?

Are you willing to stand up for our nation and our fellow citizens and make that phone call or write that letter to the Senators and members of the House of Representatives who are paid handsomely to represent us?

Remember, this is the holiday that we set aside each year to honor our valiant soldiers to whom we owe our nation, our way of life and, indeed, our lives!

Next to enlisting in the armed forces, peaceful dissent and involvement in the political process is the most patriotic action you can take!

If this latest affront to the citizens of the United States does not enrage you I suggest you head to the nearest emergency room and have the attending physician check you for a pulse and brain activity!

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.

I implore you to get involved!
