Michele and I became grandparents for the first time this week. A birth of a child is a miraculous thing to witness; an experience that makes the existence of God so real.
Little Reese Michele has already impacted the lives of her family in ways that cannot even be expressed.
“Happy is the man that hath his quiver is full.” Lot’s of smiling going on in our family today.
I had the joy of holding my seven-pound butter-cup for an extended period last night and couldn’t help but acknowledge the natural affinity to love this new little creature. All babies are loveable, but there is something deep about the natural love one has for his own progeny.
How is it possible to so love someone you have just met? God only knows…
I was struck by how helpless she was…how totally dependant she was on others. I guess it is what Jesus meant when he told the grown-ups “unless you become as little children.” Just as “Reese’s Pieces” is dependant on the adults in her life, total dependency on God is a safe place to be. It is peaceful to rest in that assurance.
As I looked into her tiny little face my thoughts drifted to the scourge of abortion.
“Lord,” I thought to myself. “How could anyone kill one of these little babies?” Soon the answer came.
“Because Christians don’t hate abortion. Abortion would end tomorrow if the Church demanded it to stop.”
My internal conversation continued. “But there are millions of pro-life people in America. Why do we permit these innocent little creatures to be slaughtered?”
“Yes” the other voice answered. “There are many who claim to be pro-life, but they do not hate abortion. God hates hands that shed innocent blood. Until His people share that hatred, abortion will continue.
Hate is a good thing. In fact, it is a powerful motivator. In this greasy-gracey Christianity that we practice today most of the practitioners don’t even know that the Lord hates. It was his idea you know?
Do you hate abortion or are you merely “pro-life?”
In our daily prayer time this morning Michele and I came across this gut-wrenching scripture from Jeremiah.
“Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.”
These words were spoken by Jeremiah at the gates of the church! (Jer. 7:2)
Christians love to hide behind slogans. “Pro-life,” “anti-abortion,” “traditional marriage” “values voters,” “conservative Republicans,” are examples of “political positions” that Christians substitute for action.
The Church is responsible for the legalization of abortion. Only the church can stop it. That is the job that Jesus mandated to the church.
I support the Tea Party movement. In fact, I think I was a Tea Party member before there was a Tea Party. I am excited about the prospects that lie ahead as American’s begin to awaken from their self-imposed slumber.
Anger is the fuel powering the Tea Party train. Mom and Pop America are distraught over what has happened to their nation and they are hitting the streets to reclaim for their children the inheritance that their generation has spent. But in so many ways they are missing the target.
Their anger is directed at “government” but they fail to recognize the cause of the slide into socialism. They are fighting hard but there are merely treating symptoms. Their anger at healthcare, illegal immigration and the declining economy is well intentioned and justifiable, but they have not made the logical leap between cause and effect.
Every one of the issues that we are dealing with is directly related to the slaughter of the unborn.
If we hadn’t murdered 50 million little tax payers social security would not be in trouble.
If we hadn’t permitted the murder of 50 million little baby boys and baby girls we wouldn’t have a need for “undocumented” workers to do the jobs that “Americans don’t want to do” thereby importing new tax-payers to fund our selfish let-the-next-generation-pay-for-it lifestyle.
If the church had stood up and defended the sanctity of all life older Americans would not be facing the prospect of government imposed “death panels.”
Failure to stand for the “least of thy brethren” has opened the door for the government to “do it unto you.”
Paul warned us “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
The American experience is on life support because we have not protected our progeny.
It is apparent that Americans hate the intrusion of big government because they are pushing back against it.
They hate the government forcing healthcare upon them so they march to Washington.
They hate the higher taxes our elected officials are placing on hard-working Americans so they fight to elect new representatives.
They hate paying for illegal immigrants so they march for the closing of the borders.
They hate the fact that our elected officials are not obeying the US Constitution so they organize into “patriot groups” to hold our officials accountable.
But they don’t hate the fact that unborn babies are denied their inalienable right to life.
No life, no liberty. No life, no pursuit of happiness.
They don’t hate abortion as much as they love their own liberty and their own selfish pursuit of happiness.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour; If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
God is not just pro-life. He hates abortion. We would do well to respond likewise.
Until abortion ends America’s woes will continue.
Child killing will not end until Christians hate abortion.
