NOTE: We have just returned from our 2nd trip to Joplin. We will be going again next week. The need remains. You can still help put fuel in our tanks here.
We live in an upside down world.
The things that we know to be true are no longer honored. In this information age, when knowledge is as available as the nearest computer, the Truth has become neutered by two very simple words.
Prove it.
For most of my life I have tried to live by principles that were considered to be immutable, unchanging, and true. In fact, not only did I live my life by those values, but most everyone I grew up with did as well.
I remember the days when there was no such thing as abortion, and how shocked we all were when we found out that one of our buddies “had to get married.” I don’t know what amazed me more; the fact that his girlfriend was pregnant, or the shocking realization that at age 16 he had actually “done it” with a girl.
In the sixties, if you got a girl pregnant, you married her. No argument, just a “shotgun” wedding. They claimed that marrying the girl was the “right thing to do.” I’m not sure who determined it was the “right thing”, but it was nearly universally agreed that it was the only responsible thing to do following such an irresponsible act.
Later on, as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Janis Joplin began to make inroads into what was at the time a fairly “innocent” culture, the mantra changed from “do the right thing” to “if it feels good, do it.” No longer were established morals obediently followed, but the very truth of that morality was suddenly brought into question. “Question authority” became the siren song of a generation.
Today’s present-day Grandma’s and Grandpa’s opened the floodgates to moral relativism which developed into an attitude of “why not”, “says who” and “that may be true for you but it is not true for me” standards. We DO reap what we sow.
“Prove it” was the earthquake that rattled America’s moral foundation. What was once considered “common sense”, is no longer common. A culture is shaped by shared values. Our children no longer share ours.
Let me give you a few examples.
There was a time in America when we told our children not to have sex outside of marriage because:
•
It would lead to divorce.
• An undefiled wedding bed was the best wedding
bed.
• Living together would cheapen the institution
of marriage.
• Promiscuity is a life-style that would lead
to adultery later in life.
• Whoring around would lead to a influx of new
diseases.
And the “experts” said, “Oh Yeah? Prove it.”
We warned our children that under-aged drinking would lead to:
•
Unplanned pregnancy
• Death’s from drinking and driving.
• The abuse of other drugs.
• Domestic abuse.
• The loss of virginity.
And they responded, “Oh yeah? Prove it.”
We were warned by our grandparents’ generation that to be financially wise we should:
•
Pay as we go.
• Don’t go into debt.
• Tear up the credit cards.
• Don’t spend more than we earn.
• Save.
“Oh yeah? Prove it.”
Wise men warned us that:
•
Government handouts made one dependent on government.
• Government checks will soon replace fathers.
• It was a man’s responsibility to pay
for his own family.
• There is no such thing as a free lunch.
• Welfare would create a permanent financial
underclass.
“Really? Prove it?”
You can not prove something until it happens. Predicting the future used to be called prognostication. Today, it is called intolerance and bigotry.
So, here I go, with my own version of intolerance and bigotry. If those in authority would follow this common sense, they would be able to save us all a bunch of heartache.
•
Racial profiling would reduce crime.
• Terrorist profiling would make travelling more
safe and efficient.
• Banning gay adoption and parenting would be
healthy for children.
• Stopping abortion would lead to less breast
cancer and depression among women.
• Eliminating no-fault divorce would lead to
stronger families.
But I can’t “prove it.”
We are destroying the effectiveness of our military by:
•
Allowing homosexuals to serve.
• Permitting women to serve.
• Becoming “policeman” of the world.
• Requiring suicidal rules of engagement for
our soldiers.
• Running the John Wayne types out of the services.
But I can’t “prove it.”
Islam is not a “religion of peace.”
•
Our prisons are being used to recruit future American jihadists.
• Many Muslim soldiers are not loyal to America.
• In 20 years Muslims will demand the application
of Sharia Law in American cities.
• The “war on terror” is, at its
core, a religious war.
• Islam is incompatible with democracy.
But I can’t “prove it.”
We are losing America’s moral authority because:
•
Tolerance has replaced Truth in our churches.
• Sin has become a four-letter word in our churches.
• Sexual deviancy is an approved “alternative
lifestyle” in our churches.
• The church is teaching a different Gospel.
• Public schools are de-Christianizing our children
through tolerance and diversity.
But I can’t “prove it.”
Because America has spit in the face of God:
•
More natural disasters are heading our way.
• Our financial system will soon collapse.
• Our enemies will occupy the seats of power.
• Our own government will enslave our children.
• Tyranny will replace liberty.
But I can’t “prove it.”

The day is fast approaching when no one will be laughing at those of us who tried to warn America that God is not happy with what we have permitted to be done to this nation. We tried to tell you that the aroma of the seeker-sensitive, church-growth movement is nothing but a stench in the nostrils of God. Being able to say “I told you so” will bring me no satisfaction.
The deeper that America slides into sin the more irrelevant the American church has become. The salt has lost his savor. America is teetering on the abyss. Our children will have hell to pay for our indifference to the things that the Lord hates.
Only a deep, genuine, national repentance and a return to Biblical values can hold off God’s Judgment.
But I can’t prove it.
