Words matter.
That is a theme I often trumpet when I try to communicate. Words matter.
Stuck somewhere in my gray-matter is something that an old coach taught me years ago. It applies to more than coaching, it applies to life. It is one of the truisms that help lawyers win in court. The advice Coach Earl gave me was:
“Never assume anything. To assume means to run the risk of making an ass of u and me..ass-u-me. One of the best ways to guarantee that you will lose is to assume that the player understands what you understand.”
Or, as America's “first black President” Bill Clinton so aptly put it, it all depends on what the meaning of is, is.” No wonder they called him Slick Willie. Slick is good when you are playing ice hockey...but not so complimentary when you are talking about governing.
Bill Clinton is slimy, yet he is the most respected Democratic politician in America. Slick sells. Especially to those who ass-u-me that the words a politician uses mean the same thing to you that they do to him.
Can you say “change?” Isn't that what we were promised five years ago by the liar-in-chief?
But change to you and change to him did not look the same. Unfortunately, millions of Americans thought they were voting for a “good”change. Obama never promised that. You just ass-u-med that you and he agreed on what “change” actually meant.
Ass-U-Me. Words matter folks. Until we come to that realization we are going to spend a lot of time looking like an ass.
I wrote this Change the Words, Change the World five years ago last month.. It is worth the read.
Unfortunately, one of the places where we have become most duped is in the area of evolution. That is one of the main arguments that the Progressives love to use to ridicule Christians into denying the truth of the Bible.
To them, science has become the measure of all things. In fact, it has become the bully-club that the God-haters use to deny the existence of God. I witnessed it last month when Bill Nye The Science Guy tried to bury Ken Ham and cover him with the dirt called “scientific research.”
I learned in 8th grade science class that nothing can ever be proven true, it can only be proven false. Although true science is supposed to discover truth, supported by facts, many of the “facts” that science teaches us are nothing more than evidence. Evidence is not proof. Evidence supports truth. “Billions of years ago” and the fossil record are evidence, not proof.
The “evidence” that supports the existence of God is everywhere. In fact, Romans 1:20 calls it “invisible” proof. But “scientists” like Bill Nye want to present their “evidence” as proof and unfortunately, most Christians are falling for the bait and switch.
Science is defined as knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experience and observation.
I read every day about “climate-change” deniers. How ridiculous. Of course the climate is changing. It is called weather. Does anyone really know the temperature on March 15, AD 33? They substitute data as proof.
Please understand that data is evidence. Data is not proof. Data helps support a theory. Theories can not be proven true, they can only be proven false. Evolution is a theory...in fact they call it the “Theory of Evolution.” (Here is a good example of why theories cannot be proven true.) If evolution was true would we still be calling it a theory?
By the way, you do not have to be a “scientist” to do science? Scientists merely do “science” for a living. Even a knuckle-dragger like me can do science. I just don't get government grants to think.
Mathematics is invisible. No amount of research can prove that mathematics exist. The law of mathematics is invisible, but the laws of mathematics are immutable. If someone asked you to prove mathematical laws exist would you be able to do so? Invisible proof.
Perhaps you could prove the laws of math WORK, but can you prove the laws exist? Of course not. But the use of the laws does not prove the law exists. My good buddy Steve Klein put it this way.
“What’s really funny is I use the Laws of Math which are outside of the material world to prove that some things can not be observed by the 5 senses - they just exist and are accepted in real life.
So people DEMAND we use the 5 senses to prove God exists, the 10 Commandments exist, the conscience exists and they attempt to box us in by demanding we only use the 5 senses to prove it. The Fool, Bill Nye, explains, that if we can’t sense it, it does not exist.
Math is based on law and both math and law exist immaterially, not open to the 5 senses, and can NOT be proven or disputed.
Math is based on law, math and law exist outside of the realm of experience and the senses. Since math is based on law, law precedes, exists, before math. Law is superior to math: Math obeys laws, law does NOT obey math.This drives the logical positivists insane . A logical positivist is a person who believes that if it’s not open to the 5 senses it does not exist. To which I merely point out, what about math and law?
Evolution is based on the insanity of the logical positivists. True scientists like Sir Isaac Newton and the mathematicians actually can UNDERSTAND this concept that God does not need to be proved – just as math and law. Just tell the atheist, the fool, I don’t need to prove God – and by the way, can you disprove Him anymore than you can disprove math and law?”
Steve is not a scientist. He makes way too much sense.
Do you see what they do to us? By using the straw man of “science” they force us to prove what they know cannot not be proven. Religion, they like to tell us, is merely a system of beliefs. Science, they claim, trumps religion because science involves proof. Except they produce no proof.
But their own laws teach that most things can never be proven. The scientific double-standard is one of the greatest weapons the “Bible-deniers” use to destroy the faith of Christians. That is one of the main tenets of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.
Make the enemy live up to his own set of rules!
The God-haters follow no rules, while they make us follow ours. We first need to agree on a set of rules that apply to everyone.
In the debate between Nye and Ham there were two set of rules being used. Nye was demanding that Ham prove something than can never be proven while Ham was constantly trying to present “facts” that Nye could not refute.
Ham fell into the same trap that most of us find ourselves in...trying to prove to a God-hater that God exists when the God-hater knows it can never be proven. God Himself told us that the evidence was “invisible”...like the laws of math and gravity...unobservable.
So here is the kicker.
The debate is not about evolution. I believe in evolution. I am not a scientist but I can look at a dog and see evolution at work. Breed a poodle with a cocker spaniel and you get a cockapoo. The result is a new breed of the same species. The cockapoo is still a canine...dog family...it is not a new species of animal.
That is micro-evolution my friends...changes within species...we all believe that. We see evidence of that all around us. Look at your own children for Pete’s sake. Christians do not deny evolution!!
But there is ZERO evidence of MACRO-evolution...changes across species...a frog becoming a bird. None. All they have are theories. Theories are not proof.
Don't miss this Christians. The debate is not about EVOLUTION...it is over ORIGINS. All of the “theories” are meaningless if they can't tell us where the dirt came from. Let's make them play by the same rules. Ken Ham could have won the debate by repeating the same question after every one of Bill Nye's diatribes.
“Pardon me Bill, but where did you say all of that matter originally came from?”

Before we argue about whether or not a rock evolved into life we need for them to explain to us where the rock came from. The battle is over origins, not evolution.
Look friends, let's not fall into their trap. Rather than wasting our time arguing with the God-haters about a literal six-day creation, or a worldwide flood we need to force them to tell us what happened “in the beginning.”
Hey Bill Nye! I believe in evolution...change within species...but please explain to us how nothing evolved into something...
