President Obama continues to flout the Constitution and make good on his promise to circumvent Congress through use of his pen and phone. Stymied in his ability to push through legislation to his liking, President Obama now threatens to go it alone on immigration reform unless House Republicans withdraw their opposition and pass the immigration reform bill.
Last week, President Obama met in the Oval Office with Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Ruben Hinojosa; CHC Immigration Task Force Chair Luis Guitierrez; and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra. He promised them that he would pressure congressional Republicans to pass the immigration reform bill “as soon as possible.” He told them that he was directing Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to identify a menu of options that Obama could implement unilaterally.
In other words, the President plans another end-run around Congress in violation of Article I, Section 1 of the Constitution; in violation of his Article II, Section 1 presidential oath of office; and in violation of his Article II, Section 3 duty to “take care that the laws” are “faithfully executed.” This end-run atop 5 independent actions he has taken to delay Obamacare(without statutory authority so to do) reveal this President to view himself as unbound by the Constitution and possessed of certain dictatorial powers.
James Madison warned the nascent republic that if ever any two of the three segregated branches of power, legislative, executive, and judicial, were combined in single hands that would be the very definition of tyranny. When he acts to make law or refuses to enforce law, Obama combined executive with legislative powers and thus rules as a tyrant.
On Friday, Senator Charles Schumer posted on his Facebook page the not so veiled threat coming from the President, endorsing tyranny. He wrote: “Republicans have only two choices to make.” They can either “help pass comprehensive [immigration] reform . . . or they can sit idly by and watch the President greatly curtail deportations . . .” Like his President, Senator Schumer is complicit in the move to erect tyranny.
It is, of course, precisely Congress’s ability to prevent the passage of laws the President desires that effectuates a fundamental check on the exercise of presidential power. Without it, the President is more akin to an absolute monarch or dictator, and we devolve to that wretched state of raw executive will that existed before the beheading of Charles I of England.

Obama’s threat of tyranny did not escape the notice of Senator Jeff Sessions, who wrote in a press release: “This latest action further demonstrates that the Administration cannot be trusted to enforce any immigration plan from Congress. Congressional Democrats, who have helped empower this state of illegality, must be held to account for their actions."
That indeed is the problem. We are left with a conundrum. Who will cause this President to account for his unconstitutional assumptions of legislative powers? Who will call him to task for assuming tyrannical powers of dictatorship, presuming to make law without congressional assent and enforce only those laws that he favors?
