Vain Brains Do Not Understand
[There are 1232 pages in the yellow section of our phone directory—1100 pages in the white. Every day people of the families listed in the white pages go to the places listed in the yellow pages to work, do their marketing, and seek services and entertainment. Buyers find sellers; sellers find buyers. Patients fine physicians. Workers find employers; employers find workers. The buyers help the sellers; but the sellers also help the buyers. The physicians help the patients; but the patients also help the physicians. The workers help the employers; but the employers also help the workers. Each person in trying to fill a need of his own responds to the need of another, and both gain.
No two people whose names are listed in the white pages are exactly alike or have needs and desires that are exactly the same. No two of the enterprises listed in the yellow pages are exactly alike or offer exactly the same combination of goods and services. And yet every day millions of individual transactions take place between the people whose names are listed in the white pages and the enterprises whose names are listed in the yellow.
Our city phone book is just one of thousands throughout the United States. The pages of all those books lead to hundreds of billions of daily transactions – most of them highly successful and beneficial to all who are involved. It is nothing short of miraculous.]
The above was written in March of 1974. There have been remarkable changes since then. Add to the phone contacts the ever- increasing inter net transactions. Our phone books and computers are a truly amazing representation of what it means to be free to carry out our own transactions. Hundreds of millions of people, each different from the other can find one another and respond to each other's needs. Truly it is an every day miracle! Each makes a personal gain as he serves another. The observance of a few simple rules is important to the process. Among the most important are:
Do not lie, cheat, or steal.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Some people, in spite of the fact that they witness the transaction process every day of their lives, and even participate in it, can't believe the miracles happen. They don't understand how the intelligence possessed by each participant is sufficient to control his own transactions. To these non-believers the process, even if it is successful, is not 'scientific', and therefore must be standardized and changed. To them, management of people by systems or government is scientific. Transaction by individuals even though successful is chaos.
To the non-believers human action is not scientific unless it can be predicted, controlled, or accomplished in a laboratory situation under the direction and control of 'experts.' The vanity that demands a phenomenon, to be true, must be controllable by a special class of experts is corrupting the entire system of voluntary exchanges between individuals. The 'experts' confuse science with control. They do not respect the miracle of the marketplace. They believe in transaction management by their 'scientific' selves.
The non-believers destroy the miracle of the marketplace with their goals, policies, taxes, favoritism, human experiments, complications, unnecessary restrictions, forced transactions and rules.
Transaction
management by 'experts' always has a goal. Having a goal makes it possible
for the vain brain social managers to represent themselves as scientists.
If they are successful in reaching a goal it is scientific success. If
they are unsuccessful in reaching their goal it is explained as scientific
experimentation.
To the vain brain 'scientists.' It is perfectly legitimate to conduct
one human social or transaction experiment after another. The world is
their laboratory. Unfortunately for the rest of us they frequently convince
governments and foundations to finance experiments, and they convince
legislators to legalize the experimental goals.
When
transaction managers can convince governments and foundations that their
human experiments are scientific they get grants. One of the most useful
and frequently used gimmicks used to apply for grants is the goal of EQUALITY.
The vain brain equalizers actually try to make people equal one to another.
It is an impossible, destructive, stupid goal; but it serves them well.
Since individuals cannot be equalized, the 'experts' divide people into
groups and claim all their groups should have the same average advantages.
It is an endless process of dividing, counting, and reorganizing. To keep
things lively one group can be represented as the enemy of another.
Think about the following statements by the equalizers:
"We
recommend that an annual income at the level necessary to met the needs
of children be guaranteed to every family in the nation. Support for families
should be provided to the family as a
unit, without prejudice against variant family structures and with recognition
of differing cultural values and traditions."
"No human being shall be denied or have abrogated any right enjoyed lawfully by any other human being by reason of race, color, creed, national origin, or sex."
Those statements meaning that everybody in the world should have the same and be treated the same were not made by a group of mental patients. Actually they are the product of vain brain 'experts' who wrote the Report to the President of the 1970 White House Conference on Children.
Nothing can destroy the miracle of the marketplace more effectively than the vain brain attempt to make us all equal.
Forty years ago the 3700 nincompoops who attended the 1970 White House Conference on Children also sanctioned the following marketplace-destroying recommendation for health care:
"All health services should be delivered through one coordinated system."
In 2009 and 2010 one coordinated health services system was bullied through Congress and signed by President Obama. Despite a long history of previous attempts to completely socialize medical care the legislation is often called, 'Obamacare.'
Congress fell for the concept and Obama was willing to claim it as his own, but any informed American knows the result of total systematization and equalizing will be, as always, destruction of the market.
Rent subsidies that were used to make housing for all people more equal served mainly to raise rents in general, making housing less affordable. What about food stamps? Some families were given food stamps, but the price of food went up for everyone. Then there was the notion that mortgages must be made available to people who cannot afford them. We all know what misery and havoc that brought about.

The government cannot keep giving benefits to people all over the world who give nothing in return. When half of a transaction is forced on the people of the United States, the miracle of the marketplace becomes a pitiful asset-destroying debacle. Do we have to keep learning this by experience, or can legislators finally be made to come to their senses?
