Halliburton affiliate Kellog, Brown & Root is currently constructing a vast detention facility earmarked for unlawful enemy combatants and terrorists, but some fear the facility -- the first of many -- is being designed for Americans who oppose US global integration programs.
While America's left-wingers are sounding the alarm about "concentration camps," there are many who believe it is conservatives who will be illegally incarcerated in these KBR built prison camps. A number of conservatives have noticed how President George W. Bush and other so-called right-wingers such as Senator John McCain have used the same anti-conservative rhetoric as liberals.
"During the illegal immigration debate, Bush, McCain and many others who claim to be conservatives sided with left-wing demagogues. I wouldn't be surprised if pro-life activists, anti-immigration advocates and other conservatives find themselves locked away in secret prison camps," said political consultant Mike Baker.
Because the bill passed through the US Congress with lightning speed, few Americans noticed that it empowers the President to declare not just aliens, but also US citizens, "unlawful enemy combatants."
Anyone who donates money to a charity that turns up on Bush's list of "terrorist" organizations, or who speaks out against the government's policies could be declared an "unlawful enemy combatant" and imprisoned indefinitely. That includes American citizens, according to one Homeland Security Department executive who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"For example, you already have a movement in this country to treat anti-abortion group members as organized crime figures. Federal law enforcement officers are being trained to view pro-life activists as criminals," said the DHS supervisor.
The congressional bill also strips habeas corpus rights from detained aliens who have been declared enemy combatants. Congress has the constitutional power to suspend habeas corpus only in times of rebellion or invasion. The habeas-stripping provision in the new bill is unconstitutional and the Supreme Court will likely say so when the issue comes before it, said one conservative legal expert.
"This reminds me of the roach motel, where you check in but don't check out," said former police officer David Minkoff.
"One must bear in mind that Stalin and Hitler, two of the most ruthless dictators in history, killed millions of their own people. When Stalin ordered thousands of his people to leave the cities for the gulags in the Yural Mountains to dig for gold for his industrial revolution, 99% never survived. When they were boarding the train, little did they know they were never to return." said Minkoff.
"Keep in mind that there is approximately one cop for every 1000 people. If the people knew what their fate was, Stalin and his loyal cops would not have been able to pull this off. In order to fool the masses, Stalin had to make them believe that they were doing this for the good of Mother Russia," adds Minkoff.
With a maximum total value of $385 million over a five-year term, consisting of a one-year based period and four one-year options, the competitively awarded contract will be executed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District. KBR held the previous Immigration and Customs Enforcement contract from 2000 through 2005.
"We look forward to continuing the good work we have been doing to support [the US government] whenever and wherever we are needed," read a statement from KBR.
The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs.
While most Americans will agree with such government action against illegal aliens, it is unlikely that government will use these new detention centers for that purpose.
One anonymous critic told this reporter that after the horror he witnessed at Waco -- when the US government slaughtered American citizens -- he believes the federal government is more likely to imprison patriotic citizens than illegal aliens or true enemy combatants.
"The same thing happened with Hitler, when Jews, Gypsies and Christians were boarding the cattle cars for concentration camps, they were told that they're going there for their safety. They believed the government lie. Obviously, if the people knew that they were heading towards certain death, they would have revolted.
