FLORIDA CONGRESSMAN SAYS NIX FOREIGN ELECTION OBSERVERS

Florida Congressman Jeff Miller has come out in strong objection to The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) bringing a presence to monitor American elections in November. The OSCE has been invited by the State Department to monitor America's elections. On June 29, 1990, OSCE-participating nations agreed to observe elections in one anothers countries.

A firestorm was set off recently when thirteen Democrats sent a letter to Secretary General Kofi Annan calling for the United Nations (UN) to bring in observers to ensure an accurate vote. Next month the OSCE will send a preliminary mission to Washington to assess the size, scope, logistics and cost of the oversight operation. It appears these Democrats will prevail and America will have foreign observers monitoring elections in less than three months.

According to Congressman Miller, "The U.S. has historically self monitored its democratic election process and I see no real reason to involve an international organization. The monitoring of our elections by foreigners creates an unquestionable symbolic effect, and one with the potential for an enduring influence with perilous consequences, and one that will undoubtedly come to regret....Our ancestors, friends, and family paid for our independence and democracy at the highest price: bloodshed. Allowing international organizations to become a regulatory body in America's democratic election process would be in contravention to our Forefathers vision. What do foreign observers bring to American elections? We are not a country suppressed by tyranny and aggression; we are a free nation built upon a foundation of citizen democracy. Unlike many countries in the world, Americans know an election process where they can vote for whomever they choose without fear of oppression--by the government or any other body."

Miller, expressing sentiments held by millions of Americans, went on to say: "International election supervision represents an ideology centered on developing into a one-world government as part of humanity's stride toward unity. However, I believe international monitoring is a step backward toward subordination of the American political and legal system into a global government. Its goal is very similar to what Communism once waswhat so many Americans fought and died to conquer throughout different parts of the world. This time, it's so subtle that it will go unnoticed by most. That, in my opinion, makes it all the more dangerous."

Miller believes the U.N. threatens the sovereignty of these united States of America and supported an amendment to the foreign aid bill that barred federal funds from being used for the United Nations to monitor our national elections. Like Congressman Ron Paul of Texas who has sponsored H.R. 1146, the American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003, Miller wants the U.S. to withdraw from the U.N. H.R. 1146 would require the immediate withdrawal of the United States and bar our armed forces from serving under U.N. command. To date, the majority in Congress have no interest in this legislation.

In the past, other members of Congress expressed grave doubts and warnings about America's participation in the U.N. Back in 1962, Congressman James B. Utt from California, made a lengthy speech on the floor of the House of Representatives laying out what he felt were extreme dangers to America by remaining involved with the U.N.:

"Mr. Speaker, on the opening day of the 2nd session of the 87th Congress, I introduced H.R. 9567, a bill to rescind and revoke membership of the United States in the United Nations and the specialized agencies thereof and to repeal the Immunities Act relative thereto.... This conversion of our limited Republic to an unlimited democracy is a death blow to this nation.

"The realization of this tragedy was the reason for the proposal of the Bricker Amendment nearly a decade ago. The Bricker Amendment simply provided that when there was a conflict between the Constitution of the United States and a treaty, that conflict must be resolved in favor of the Constitution, and yet the Bricker Amendment was defeated by a narrow margin under strong propaganda pressure from the Council on Foreign Relations and politicians who glories in the unlimited power conveyed upon them by the United Nations Charter. There were just too many politicians and too few statesmen.

"Now let us look at the record. According to Trygve Lie, longtime Secretary General of the United Nations, he stated flatly that there was a secret agreement between Alger Hiss [Hiss was a Communist who was convicted of spying against the United States.] and Molotov to the effect that the head of the UN military staff should always be a Communist. That agreement has never been broken, and we have had a succession of Communists filling that post.

"We were sold the U.N. on a promise of peace, but we failed to realize that this peace was to be on Communist terms; in fact, it was to be a total victory for the international Communist conspiracy. You can expect to see a one world government, Communist controlled, under the United Nations. You will see the UN run up astronomical debts which we, under the terms of the treaty, are bound to pay."

Each year it costs the taxpayers in this country billions of dollars as a participant in the UN's activities.
