One of the reasons many Americans are fed up with our government's incessant military forays overseas is due to the manner in which Uncle Sam spends billions of dollars propping up various dictatorships only later to ask our sons (and daughters) to fight and die in an attempt to overthrow those very same dictatorships. Sadly, this has been the redundant bottom line of our foreign policy since World War II.

Furthermore, not only has it not mattered to a hill of beans which party was in the White House, Republicans seem to have a more egregious record in this regard than Democrats. Could a recent decision by the Bush administration to send nearly $2 billion to The Sudan be the latest example of this foolishness?

According to The Washington Times, "The Bush administration plans to spend almost $1.8 billion in reconstruction, development and humanitarian aid to Sudan in the next two years, despite the continuing violence in the country's Darfur region, senior officials said on April 15."

The Times report also stated, "'There are no strings to the money,' a senior State Department official said."

The decision to send nearly two billion taxpayer dollars to The Sudan needs even further investigation when one recalls that it has been the Communist Chinese-supported Khartoum government that has murdered more than two million people (mostly Christians) over the past two decades. In fact, the mass killing of Christians in Southern Sudan is nothing short of attempted genocide on the part of the Marxist government in the North.

The American people have good reason to be suspicious. Some of us can still remember when President George Herbert Walker Bush justified sending billions of dollars of foreign aid to Iraq by telling the American people back in 1989 that Saddam Hussein was America's friend and ally. Yes, Gertrude, this was the same Saddam Hussein that George W. Bush has spent more than 1,500 American lives (not to mention billions of dollars) to depose.

The Times report quotes an unidentified State Department official as saying that "most of the money will be used to support the south." However, what the official doesn't say is how the money will be transferred to the freedom fighters in the South or how much of the total amount will be used to directly assist the South. If America's financial assistance to Sudan in any way travels through Khartoum, it will only serve to further augment and ensconce additional violence and bloodshed.

Beyond that, it is well established that Communist China has stationed several thousand troops in Northern Sudan in order to maintain control over the rich oil fields of the North. And the U. S. government has demonstrated it has no intention of impeding Beijing's efforts.

For over twenty years, Sudanese Marxists, with the help and assistance of Red China and the United Nations, have raped, pillaged, plundered, tortured, murdered, and sold into slavery more than two million people in Southern Sudan. Therefore, the American people have a right to know if any of this foreign aid to Sudan will find its way into the coffers of the Khartoum government. If it does, it is yet another foreign policy debacle!
