STEM CELL HYPOCRISY

I cannot think of a human condition more frowned-upon by Jesus than hypocrisy. I say human condition because the greatest single human talent is the ability to lie to ones self.

In the closing weeks of the recent political mud-wrestling match, the debate over the use of fetal stem cells was brought to the fore. Fetal stem cells are to be distinguished from other stem cells as they are derived from very early stage human beings in the womb and the process of harvesting them means the demise of the child called a fetus in order to hide its humanity. Stem cells are said to have great promise for the cure of many maladies.

One of the great champions of this form of neo-cannibalism was the late Christopher, the late Superman, Reeve, about whom I recently wrote. (See: The Superman Curse) John Kerry, vying for yet more of the Barbarian voting bloc, dragged the late Reeve from his crypt (along with the late Supermans wife) to bolster his own support this ghoulish science.

In California, Governor Ah-nuld Schwarzenegger, a barbarian formerly known as Conan, did his barbaric best successfully to pass Proposition 71 wherein, those most likely to profit from this science will be paid by the taxpayers of California to engage in the Frankenstein experiments with the living bodies of the Unborn.

(Irrelevant to these people is the fact that science has already shown that the promised medical breakthroughs are much more likely if one uses adult stem cells.)

These people are not hypocrites. They really believe that cannibalism holds the cures. They also believe that the ends justify the means.

During this time, the reaction of everyone from President W to the little old lady in the pew at the First Baptist Church stood firm in their resolve: These are human beings! Human life begins at conception, and it is wrong to kill them even for the good of medical science!

Unfortunately, it is mostly these people who are hypocrites. Professing to believe that human life begins at conception, they turn and deny it by their actions. Like the pro-abortionists, it has to do with convenience.

The President started off his first term as Pro-lifer-In-Chief by deciding not to federally fund fetal stem cell research except except if the cells came from already murdered babies. No good Christian burials for these babies, just the continued violation of their tiny bodies.

It was, though, convenient for W to, Solomon-like, split the babies. Half for the ghouls, and half as a bone to toss the pro-life movement to retain their votes.

However, the Christian, pro-life voter is not much better. They voted for Bush again despite this. Worse than that, the American Christian public, by-and-large, has denied the principle that human life begins at conception by their own actions for many years. We have become the holocaust-deniers of the Holocaust of the Unborn. It is all so convenient.

It has been my contention for many years that the failure of the pro-life movement was caused by just such sin in the camp. (See: How Sin in the Camp Has Made Pro-Life, Pro-Family Movement Impotent)

The facts are that most modern birth control methods the Pill, intrauterine device (IUD), patches, shots, implants, and such all use abortifacient means of achieving their goal. The chemical methods like the Pill use several methods, but one is always abortifacient. The Physicians Desk Reference, the handbook for pharmaceutical drugs, describes this mechanism as changes in the endometrium which reduce the likelihood of implantation In other words, it works by making the uterine wall hostile to the implantation of an already-conceived child. It is chemical abortion. (For a complete treatment of this issue, download Randy Alcorns booklet, Does the Birth Control Pill Cause Abortions?.

The IUD works this way as well.

However, the Church, while claiming to believe that human life begins at conception will not make this public much less tell their congregations that such forms of birth control are murderous. While women raise their hands in worship in the sanctuary, their bodies, under the influence of the Pill or IUD, are jettisoning their Unborn.

I read the first chapter of Isaiah and I see something of the same thing. Picture the prophet walking into the Temple during worship services. He is not in some pagan land at the altar of Baal, but in church where Gods people are doing Gods things as required by Gods Word.

Who invited you here? asks the prophet in Gods stead. Who invited you to trample my courts and stink the place up with your foul offerings? (Imagine having someone at church tell you that!)

The people are shocked. What do you mean? they wonder. Im sick of all your church attendance and celebrations of holy days, He says. Away with it all!

Pray all you like, He adds, Spread out you hands, but dont expect me to answer your hands are full of blood.

Slam! God shuts the door. The blood of the innocent is on their hands and God cannot abide it. As in our day, some people were probably not even aware of the bloodshed, but their ignorance did not excuse them. Under the Old Testament law, there were even sacrifices for sins committed in ignorance. Ignorance does not cleanse sin.

Today, many know, but are in denial. They know that the Pill kills babies, but their control of their own lives is more important than living by the absolute truth that human life begins at conception. Guess what? That is precisely the same reason the pro-aborts have for their surgical abortions. By taking this position, you simply join the pro-abort ranks.

Is it any wonder that the anti-abortion movement has failed? How could God possibly bless a people who proclaim that surgical abortion and fetal stem cell harvesting are murder all the while they are murdering their own with chemicals and IUD devices?

We are no better than those who were in the Temple when Isaiah walked in.

However, despite Gods demand that they quit His Temple, there was yet (as it seems always with our God) an offer of hope. He said:

Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. -- Isaiah 1: 16-20

There is hope if we open our eyes, if we admit our wrong, if we cease to do evil, and learn to do well.
