DUMB ON PURPOSE

By Pastor Dick Carmack

Creationist speaker Kent Hovind, when observing the diminished intellectual capacity of those who believe in evolution commented, "To believe those lies you have to be dumb on purpose." (paraphrase)

So it is with the obvious idiocy of banks who go out on a limb to gamble on derivatives that total in the HUNDREDS of TRILLIONS of dollars surpassing by 20 or 30 times the Gross National Products (GDP) of all the nations of the world combined.

Nobody can be that dumb accidently. It has to be on purpose. Such is the world the Chosen Generation lives with and in.

"Well," we rationalize "they get caught up with the excitement and turn investments into gambles." Or, "they've turned Wall Street into a casino." Those and a hundred other rationalizations attempt to explain away the financial chaos that waits as the economies of the world teeter on the brink. In spite of the excuses when the edge finally crumbles and we plunge to certain destruction, when the mother of all crashes finally takes place, the entire world will go into a financial wipeout that will destroy civilization as we know it.

If you check your Bible concordance for the word "evil," you will find it occurs 569 times. It seems God has used a lot of words telling us about it. Do you suppose the Bible should be required reading and acceptance by all who would be famous? "Read this carefully there's going to be a test."

In addition to the financiers, our politicians exhibit the same head scratching behavior. How many times have we elected someone to public office who was an ordinary guy with reasonable intelligence who talked and acted logically, someone who was apparently a God-fearing family man, only to see him go completely bonkers almost as soon as he arrives in Washington? The answer is about as many times as we have had an election.

Once in a very great while, a man comes along with enough character to actually go to Babylon on the Potomac and attempt to do what he had previously promised. Mr. Smith was one, and there are a few notable people in public life today, but not many. I won't attempt to name any because as sure as I do I'll be proven wrong.

"And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Ge 6:5)

Another example:

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." (Lu 6:45)

Are they ALL fools and charlatans? Or perhaps are they swayed (bought) with oodles of money? For those that can't be bought how about digging deeply into their past and coming up with a few morsels that really don't need to see the light of day and be publicized in the home-town newspaper? If bribery or blackmail won't work how about threats to them or their families? When all else fails there can always be a 'suicide' or an "auto accident." You can see my opinion of the human race, especially those who seek the lime-light is very low.

What can be done? Not much, short of vetting extensively every candidate for public office and then sending a contingent of citizens with them to the Congress or State House to provide physical protection after (or before) a vote against the entrenched establishment. When you contend with the powers that be with their money and power we must remember we are jousting not just against humans but their demons as well:

"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:" (Eph 2:2)

That's right. The Bible clearly teaches the Prince of this World and his legions of demons inhabit the heart of every man who is willing to "bend the rules" to get what he wants. Those who desire high office or great riches should be aware that "…sin lieth at the door." (Gen 4:7) and temptatiion to get an edge, to get just a little more, is great:

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition" (1Ti 6:9)

Is there any solution to law that goes against common sense? Coach Dave Daubenmire recently pointed out in a News with Views column (5-7-15) that Supreme Court decisions and Laws by Congress that conflict with the Constitution are "No Law At All." Coach quotes Marbury v Madison 1803.- "All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void." John Stossel in a recent TV program had a guest who proposed action on the millions of regulations by advising, "Just ignore them."

It has been argued convincingly that if ENOUGH PEOPLE simply ignore the law the Constitutional issue never arises. The law is simply ignored, forgotten and eventually shelved. Prohibition (of alcohol) is an example. Sure, there was formal repeal of prohibition[1] but millions of Americans had already nullified the law by simply ignoring it.[2] I'm not advocating the drinking of home-made or store-bought hooch but as a practical matter the government can't build enough jails if a majority of the population simply ignores a law that it perceives as unjust.

Late news reports 15 million Southern Baptists (as well as all the Independents) are poised for civil disobedience, including jail time if necessary, presuming the Supreme Court will rule in favor of same-sex "marriage."

That brings up another subject, the privatization of prisons, which is good in theory, but not when the private jailers request (and are granted) a quota system to keep them full. If you don't have enough prisoners so a profitable prison can be run, just go out and round up a few people walking by and throw them in jail. You can always convict them (when you get around to it) later of some "crime" so the newly built and staffed prisons can stay in business.

Thats dumb. That's dumb on purpose.

But we're working at it, and when the smoke clears after the coming wipe-out, maybe, just maybe, if there's still a human race left, we'll get it right the next time.

Here's a slim possibility: Go back to the Constitution and elect one Federal Representative for every designated number of citizens (500,000 might work for today – 30,000 originaally), and REQUIRE them to stay in their HOMETOWN where their neighbors can talk to and monitor them. If they are caught within 100 miles of an unsupervised meeting with another Representative, arrest them for jail time.

They can communicate with each other electronically. They can argue and vote on measures, and by law, EVERY email, EVERY telephone call and EVERY vote has to be made public EVERY 24 hours. There would only have to be less than 700 of them. Pay each one the AVERAGE income of their represented areas and limit them to ONE TERM, then back to the daily grind. We'd save about a trillion dollars a year in direct expenses and a few more trillion in collateral damage. It would be extremely difficult to buy or bully 700 Representatives that lived and worked in 700 different home towns. It probably wouldn't be practical for a company to hire enough lobbyists to cover them all. Besides the neighbors would be coming over and asking, "Who was that man that was here last night?"

Then, if there is evidence of undue pressure, double the number of Reps to 1400.

No, on second thought, that won't work either because the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics says eventually EVERYTHING will go back to dust, all the buildings, all the laws, all the Constitutions, all the nations, all the people. It's THE LAW. The Holy Bible calls it "The Curse," (Gen 3:14-19) I call it the "Law of Dust." This world is doomed and without the God of the Bible, ALL IS VANITY (that's what Solomon said).

There is absolutely NO HOPE for the human race despite all their ingenuity, despite all their efforts of self-righteousness and self-redemption, all is vanity. Outside of the forgiveness of sin and redemption through Jesus Christ, everything breaks down. Only the terrible work of the shedding of His own blood, offers any way out. What He did on the Cross 2,000 years ago is our only hope. Redemption that is free, and you can have it by repenting of your sin, believing in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead and asking for salvation.
