IS THE BIBLE ACCURATE?
By
Pastor Roger Anghis "What kind of question is that?" The Bible, in Psalms 34:15-19, says,
I am not surprised that "non-believers" say the Bible is a book of fables, stories and myths. They don't really care to read, understand or believe the Bible. I am not surprised that many liberal leaning religious people (religious humanists, new age thinkers, 'Christians-by-birth' types) believe in a "higher power" but not necessarily in the God of the Bible or in the atoning Work of Jesus Christ when they say the Bible is a "good guide to living", but has errors and should never be taken literally. These folks rarely read the Bible, although they derive many of their religious customs, ethics and morals from principals contained in the Bible. But, they don't literally TRUST God's Word. I am surprised, however, that many "believing" Christians and Christian churches say the Bible is "good for daily instruction", "adequate regarding matters of life", "sufficient for salvation", "plenary" BUT, do not regard the Bible as inerrant (without error). By the way, please don't confuse inerrancy with literal. Inerrant means without error. Literal means, well... literal. And speakers in the Bible deliberately use non-literal terms to teach a lesson or to make as point, such as parables, and figures of speech (similes, metaphors). But, for there are no errors in scriptures. So please don't confuse literal with inerrant. The non-believer says the Bible is nonsense. You know where these folks stand, so don't ask them about understanding the Bible or using it for life. The second group says you can trust the principals in the Bible, but don't go too far with conducting your daily affairs on the Book. They think science is of God also. So, they state their beliefs for all to hear. You can gather with these folks to admire and respect the Bible, but don't expect much more. The third group, however, says you should read and trust the Bible for daily guidance. You are safe to plan your life around the Truth contained in the Book - BUT . . . it has some error in it?!?! What?!?! ... That is like saying "I have a 1973 road map that is accurate, sort of". But, if you would ask me which roads are incorrect, I can't tell you since I don't trust the map. It's outdated. It's the only map I have but I suggest that YOU trust the map! And, you will have to travel the roads and get LOST to find the "dead ends" and "pot holes" so you can determine what is accurate from what is inaccurate. Good luck! That is no way to travel. And, it's no way to regard the Bible, either. If the Bible has mistakes in it, why trust it at all? You are better off doing like the religious folks. If you subscribe to the mistaken theory that the Bible is 'dependable' but may have some error in it, then you are faced with the next question "Who , then, can tell the rest of us what is true and what is false in the Bible?". If you can't trust Jesus and the men and women who, in many cases, died so we could have the Bible, then who can you trust to tell you the Truth? Some current day man-preacher? I don't think so. This is what the Bible says:
True Believers accept this by Faith. We depend on the Truth of the Bible. We plan and order our lives on this Truth. We conduct ourselves by these Truths. So, not only is this truth in the Bible, but it must also be true in our lives. The Bible says there are rewards from God to those who believer and are obedient to His Word and faithful to perfom it - both now and in the future, eternal life. (Luke 18:27 But He said, "The things that are impossible with people are possible with God." 28 Peter
said, "Behold, we have left our own homes and followed You." (Mark 10:28 Peter began to say to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You." 29 Jesus
said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or
brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake
and for the gospel’s sake, (Matthew 19:27 Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?" 28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. Do you believe Him? Do you believe the Truth contained in these verses? If you think there is any chance that God made mistakes writing His Book then you must decide which things to DO and which things to ingore? Many people say they 'believe in him', but they don't really believe Him. If you don't DO what He says, then you don't believe Him. In fact, in Matthew 7:22 Jesus says, "Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ (23) "And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’ They believed IN HIM, but they did not BELIEVE HIM and DO the things He told them to DO. I repeat, if you think the Bible has errors in it, you won't DO all He has said to do - And, if you don't DO what He has said to DO, then, you don't really believe Him If you are NOT sure He has told the Truth, all the time, how can you depend on God; or plan your life on His Word; or hope for to claim ANY of the promises of God - including getting to heaven? Please hear this: I have been a member of a seemingly traditional Christian church, in the last several years, that offered Sunday sermons - public preaching - from the pulpit - reading a New Testament scripture, the 'pastor' said, "... this is in the bible, but we aren't required to do this anymore." Is this your church? Telling you that although it is in the Bible, you don't need to concern yourself with DOING what the Bible says? Does that create doubt? Not being sure is called doubt. And the Bible is just as clear that if you doubt, you should expect nothing from God. James 1:6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,
Matthew
21:21 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if
you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to
the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up
and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. God is Truth. His Word is True. We can depend on Him. My testimony is that GOD ALWAYS HEARS OUR PRAYERS AND ANSWERS. I'm just saying that in 30+ years of praying and asking God for guidance and help, He has always come through. I did not always understand His answers. Sometimes I thought He did not answer - usually, because I missed His answer. And there have been times that I did not like His answer - at first. But, GOD HEARS OUR PRAYERS AND ANSWERS. (Note: In order to avoid a debate, let me say that there are scripture verses that tell us when God does not hear or answer. I found nine verses that deal specifically with this matter. Some examples are
The point here is that if you are an unbelieving, mean spirited, hateful, wicked and evil person, bent on living a self-serving, self-centered, greedy life, God will neither hear nor answer your prayers. So, if this describes you, STOP and repent. But, 1 John 5:14 says This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (15) And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. Is it possible that God always hears and answers? Or did I imagine that God always has heard and answered? Did I just get lucky or do things work out if just wait long enough? Can we trust God and see His promises in our lives? I know He is True and dependable. He always delivers on His Word. Even when it seems like a prayer goes unanswered, God still delivers. He will deliver for you. Do you believe it? Do you need to believe it, right now? Have you almost given up hope on some matter that is afflicting you? I know I need to believe God Word is true and will live in my life. How about you? Would you consider spending time with me discovering how God honors His Word in our lives. Let's talk about how we can SEE (EXPERIENCE) THE GLORY OF THE LORD in our lives! Let's learn, together, to perform the Word of the Lord in our lives. Would you join me in a life Bible study project on this subject? Would you begin to pray with me and ask God to show us how to become the "deer that pants after the water" Ps 42:1. Ask God to show us how to "seek after Him diligently so we will receive His reward" Heb 11:6. Let's find God on this matter. Let's learn to trust and receive from God. Let's defy the evil and trouble of these difficult days. Let's begin to call on our Supernatural God Who performs outrageous and mighty deeds for His own. Let's wait on and receive from our Fearsome and Awesome God Who will step out of His Eternal heavens and reach onto this earth to answer our desperate cries for help. Let's call on Him, and receive His promises, and be awestruck. I am certain He is waiting on us to call Him in this way. I believe God is waiting to show us His awesome and mighty presence. I believe God is waiting on us, now.
