ONE DAY OLDER AND DEEPER
IN DEBT
By Betty Freauf August 3, 2003 NewsWithViews.com St. Peter, don't call me cuz I can't go. I owe my soul to the neighborhood store. That was a little ditty that was sung many years ago but it came to mind as I read in today's Salem, Oregon's Statesman Journal (S-J 7/27) an article by Richard R. Aquirre, Capitol Watch, about the State of Oregon being broke and the general fund dipping into the red -- overdrawn, State Treasurer Randall Edwards said. Walter J. Burien, called the CAFRman, has long been saying that there are literally billions hidden away in separate accounts in state governmental entities from school districts to the state and evey thing in between. CAFR is an acronym for Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports. And, yes, I finally got a State of Oregon copy but the numbers are so convoluted I don't think anyone knows for certain how much there really is in it. http://www.cafrman.com/ When I first heard about these CAFRs, I contacted my state rep and he'd never heard of them and this is probably the case throughout the U.S. It's apparently the best guarded secret. Oregon has an 8% unemployment rate - the highest in the nation, I understand. So in order to scare our GOP controlled House of Representatives where all revenue-raising bills must originate, our Democrat treasurer is telling us that we are swimming in red ink -- in the general budget but he carefully avoids mentioning the billions in the CAFR. The "watermellon" environmentalists have successfully shut down great amounts of our past successful forest industry by using the spotted owl and some creepy little crawlers they claim are going to become extinct in the forests if we don't quit cutting down the trees on federal land. If one could see the map I have on my wall which shows how much land the federal government owns in the Pacific Northwest, people on the east coast would be shocked. But watch your national news. Our forests are burning again this year in the Pacific Northwest due to poor forest management. ABC's 20/20 had a segment on July 25 about the problems Park Rangers are experiencing on the federal lands and then a local follow up on the July 26 news showed how the marijuana growers are using federal lands to grow their crops with very sophisticated, booby trapped operations with armed guards on duty. After the environmental wackoes devastated our forest industry, then they went after the salmon industry. A 2/27/1998 OREGONIAN article said the U.S. was proposing a huge fish-rescue effort and Oregon was to serve as model. In an A-P article dated 3/4/2000 it told of a man who was elk hunting in the Coast Range and he came upon technicians at the Fall Creek hatchery bashing coho salmon in the head with baseball bats and stripping their blood-red eggs into 5-gallon buckets. He returned with his video camera and made sure it got widely distrtibuted. All this to prove we had a salmon shortage. And then on 8/29/2001 an article reported Oregon suddenly had a "Salmon surge" and researchers attributed it to the weather. Many big shots in our government began relying on tourism revenues but when the economy is pretty much in the toilet all over the U.S. people are watching what they spend and many are taking their vacations close to home. Now the fools are courting Hollywood to come to Oregon to make films to help boost our sick economy. Many Oregon towns that used to thrive from the forest and salmon industries have become ghost towns. Workers were encouraged to move into the city to retrain perhaps in the dot.com field and when the bottom fell out of that, the state's revenues began to dry up and now our elected officials are on the horns of a dilemma. The S-J article says negative cash flows and constant borrowing are becoming standard operating procedures for the state because of rising demands on the general fund and falling revenue and so we get another day older and deeper in debt. The tax and spend liberals never put anything away for a rainy day or is that the CAFRs? "Let the good times roll" was their mantra. Couple this with the mounting federal deficit where all our personal real estate is being used as collateral to the international bankers who loan the U.S. money and charge us interest on these hot air loans and we are in deep do-do, folks! Ironically, the day before the S-J article about Oregon being broke, someone sent me an article with headlines: Deficit-Wracked Maryland Calls it Quits. The article certainly did look authentic but figuring it might be some type of a cruel hoax, a few calls to residents in that state indicated they knew nothing about it. There is an old staying, when in Rome, do as the Romans do; however, one historian has concluded there were five reasons for the decline and fall of Rome and we may very well be seeing the U.S. falling into the same trap: (1) The undermining of the dignity and sanctity
of the home, which is the basis of human society If you'll take the time to read the minor prophet Zephaniah in the Bible about the Judgment of Judah and Jerusalem, his message carries out this scriptural principle of human government. Dr. J. Vernon McGee says old Zeph puts his finger right down on the sore spot in the southern kingdom of Judah -- IDOLATRY. McGee says the people were now on the toboggan; they were on the way down and out and judgment was coming. Idolatry is where every great nation has gone off the track. When a nation departs from the living and true God or when it gives up great moral principles which were based on religion, when it goes into idolatry, these factors eventually lead it into gross immorality and into political anarchy said McGee. And then when I see the Communist Goals as set forth in the January 10, 1963 Congressional Record (Appendix, pp. A34-A35), it becomes even more frightening. While there are 45, I will only mention those that I believe have caused the chaos and the resulting financial crisis for the federal government as well as the states. -Permit free trade
between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless
of whether or not items could be used for war Have we arrived? Like O'Reilly on FOX News would say "I'll give you the last word." 2003 Betty Freauf - All Rights Reserved Sign

"A 1947 article entitled, "The Devil in Day Care" by Marynia Farnham, M.D. and Ferdinand Lundberg stated that "Day care is a system that guarantees, beyond doubt, a steady quota of neurotics for society constantly to cope with but in the feminist view the child should not, at any cost, interfere with its mother's freedoms."
