TAKE THE MUZZLE OFF

[Editors Note: Coach Daubenmire has hit a home run or should we say scored a touchdown with this article. Please, after reading it, print out a few copies and take it to your pastor. You will see if he serves and fears God or the government. What's at stake is America. You owe this to your children and grandchildren.]

It’s about time!

Finally a little bit of offense out of the good guys. I have been so frustrated over the past years as I watch our “team” continue to run our defensive unit out onto the field.

It is not the job of the defense to score points. It is their job to prevent the other team from scoring. For as long as I have been engaged in the cultural war it has been a rare, but wonderful sight to see our guys “throw a punch.” The rope-a-dope may have worked for Muhammad Ali but that strategy has done nothing to help the cause of Christianity in today’s America. Even if your defense is perfect you still end up with zero points.

Our opponents have used the judicial ropes to tie up the Christian dopes. We are constantly counting on goal-line stands.

But finally, our guys are about to take a swing.

As I have written many times it is my belief that the paralyzing lie of “separation between the church and state” has done more to restrict Christianity than anything in my life time.

To read several of the commentaries I have written regarding this issue please click here, here, here, and here. I don’t have the space to repeat important points that I have already made.

We are in trouble in America because the pulpits have gone silent. There are several different reason why this has happened but the greatest lie has been that one’s religion has no place in politics. For most of us, our religion frames our worldview, the way we see the events around us, and because of the tyrannical courts and their misapplication of the First Amendment, Christians have been forced to keep their views locked up inside their “stained glass fortresses.”

Haven’t you noticed that there are all kinds of religions welcome in America today: Paganism, Atheism, Environmentalism, Darwinism and a myriad of others have free rein inside our government schools. Christianity, which gave us the idea of Liberty and “freedom of religion,” is now the one on the outside looking in, and without a peep for the most part.

How has this happened? The courts have stuck a big sock in the mouth of our pulpiteers. As a result, evil has run almost unopposed in our culture with a devastating effect on all facets of society. Christian values undergird the foundations of this once-great nation. Founding Father Jedediah Morse said:

"To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoys. . . . Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government, and all blessings which flow from them, must fall with them."

Psalm 11:3 says it this way, “If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do?”

Let me clear one thing up. I have been screaming for years that we are fighting the wrong battle. We constantly find ourselves groveling at the table of government begging for our “Constitutional rights.” To just quote from what I wrote over two years ago:

“I don’t mean to be rude, but I think it is important to point out that we are fighting on the wrong field. With all due respect, the Church does not receive her rights from the benevolence of the government. The 1st Amendment of the Constitution says ‘Congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of a religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof.’ The 501-c3 statute limits the free exercise of the Church by curbing her free-speech rights. The law, which was passed by Congress, is a clear violation of the free exercise clause of the Constitution and according to the US Supreme Court in Marbury v Madison ‘all laws repugnant to the Constitution are null and void.’ The right of churches and church leaders to freely speak comes from God and not from the government. The Declaration of Independence states ‘that to secure these rights governments are instituted amongst men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.’ The Church is above, not separate, from the government. We are fighting on the wrong field.”

Congress shall make no law……and neither can the courts.

Look, I know all about the trap that the government has set in regards to the 501 (c) 3 restrictions on churches that become corporations. To incorporate a church is to come into relationship with the government that God never intended the Church to enter. Incorporation makes the government the CEO of your church. It makes Caesar the boss of the incorporated church.

Churches should not incorporate. Most do it out of ignorance and by doing so they insert their own sock into their pastor’s mouth. Afraid to lose their tax-exemption, the church slowly begins to answer to Caesar rather than to God. No man can serve two masters.

You see, churches are tax IMMUNE, or protected from government, and not tax EXEMPT which means “free from obligation.” The church has no obligation to government…until they incorporate. Once they do, they make a deal with the Devil. They now answer to Caesar. That is the law.

But thanks to the Alliance Defense Fund, our team has decided to shake off the yoke and fight back. The IRS statute is unconstitutional.

On September 28, 2008, the ADF is looking for some brave pastors who will willingly take the sock out of their mouths and boldly violate the IRS’ regulations against “political activity” by speaking for or against a particular candidate from the pulpit. The ADF is committed to defending all the churches involved in The Pulpit Initiative free of charge.

I say it is about time! Can someone tell me why the only “religion” that has a muzzle on its spokesmen is Christianity? Atheists are free to speak. So are Humanists, union leaders, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Darwinists. Why are pastors and church leaders the only ones banished from the public square? They are scared by the non-existent “separation between the church and state” and the henchmen at the IRS. Thank God for the ADF and their willingness to pick this very important fight.

According to the ADF website: “…in 1954 with the passage of the “Johnson amendment” which restricted the right of churches and pastors to speak Scriptural truth about candidates for office. The Johnson amendment was proposed by then-Senator Lyndon Johnson, and it changed the Internal Revenue Code to prohibit churches and other non-profit organizations from supporting or opposing a candidate for office. After the Johnson amendment passed, churches faced a choice of either continuing their tradition of speaking out or silencing themselves in order to retain their church’s tax exemption. The Internal Revenue Service, in conjunction with radical organizations like Americans United for Separation of Church and State, have used the Johnson amendment to create an atmosphere of intimidation and fear for any church that dares to speak Scriptural truth about candidates for office or issues.

It is time for the intimidation and threats to end. Churches and pastors have a constitutional right to speak freely and truthfully from the pulpit – even on candidates and voting – without fearing loss of their tax exemption.

Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are God-given rights, they are not Constitutional rights. Only God grants rights. The Constitution restricts government intrusion into our lives. It is time to cut the head off of that giant.

Here is what I really like about it. It is going to expose a lot of pastors who have been hiding behind the so-called government restriction on free speech. With that barrier removed maybe we can more clearly distinguish between the brave men who speak for God and those who just love the cushy job.

Interested in picking a fight? You’ll find all of the information you need right here.

The ADF has a game-plan. All they need is a few good men!

Come on, Pastor! It’s time to get off of the ropes!
