WHEN IN DOUBT, PRAY

There are times when you just can’t comment about any of this stuff that’s going on— there’s so much of it, you can’t keep track anymore; and because it’s so blisteringly, profoundly bad, you can’t find strong enough words to denounce it.

Do I really need to tell you that we now live in such a time? If you don’t already think we do, what more do you need to know? And if you’re actually happy with Obamacare, national bankruptcy, amnesty, and “gender-bending fun” (as Hollywood likes to call it), what would be the point of talking to you at all?

Yes—the “fundamental transformation” of America, promised to us by our First Voter Fraud President, has hit its stride. They’ve only got until Election Day of 2016 to make it stick forever, so they’re giving it all they’ve got. If America is not transformed into a Third World basket-case, it won’t be because this generation of “leaders” didn’t try.

They’ll know they’ve crossed the finish line when Jerry Sandusky’s face is on the dollar bill—if there still are dollars then.

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” asks Psalm 11.

Happily, the Bible—and history—provide us with the answer.

You see, there’s one thing the progs have left out of their calculations: the sovereign power of God.

“The Lord’s throne is in heaven,” says the psalm. “His eyes behold, His eyelids try the children of men.” And Our Lord Jesus Christ assures us that not a sparrow falls to the ground without the Father. (Matthew 10:24)

“Fear not, little flock,” our Master said (Luke 12:32). “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

I could go on all day, citing applicable Bible verses, but there’s no need. The teaching is clear. It’s there for anyone to find.

Nothing happens on this earth which is not subject to God’s providence. If wicked and ungodly leaders rise to power, as they have in our own country, it’s because God is making use of them—usually to chastise His people and call them to repentance. And when He is finished making use of them, He discards them.

Every evil empire that has ever arisen in history, God has eventually thrown down. Babylon, Rome, the Third Reich, the Soviet Union—all have been consigned to the ash heap of history. Someday this unbelieving empire, under which we groan today, will join those others in oblivion.

Don’t ask me to explain why God doesn’t just force people to be good. He is committed to free will. When evildoers are strong, He turns their own strength against them. Meanwhile, it’s a rough ride for the rest of us; but the Lord has never promised otherwise. “In this world you will have tribulation,” Jesus said. “But I have overcome the world.”

Our concern for now, while Satan’s servants are running up the score, must only be to turn ourselves to God: to see and to confess our sins; to repent; and to flood God’s ears with prayer. Never mind if the IRS demands to know the content of your prayers; someday they’ll be sorry they asked. God is waiting for His people to turn to Him. Only then will He heal our land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

We must build our fortress on the Rock of our salvation. There the armies of the heathen will be crumbled. There we must stand, and say “No!” to all that Baal demands of us. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be fun. “For thy sake we are slaughtered all day long,” the Bible says. But St. Paul adds, “In this we are more than conquerors.” (Romans 8:37)

How do we conquer by being rammed into the turnbuckles? The secret is this: we don’t; God does. All we have to do—and God knows it is enough—is to endure. Says Christ in the Revelation of St. John, “To him that overcometh, will I give to eat of the tree of life.” (Revelation 2:17)

Pray daily, more than once a day, for this evil age to pass away. Don’t give in to the temptation to join what seems to be the winning side. That side, in the end, will be destroyed. Someday we will seek diligently for the unfruitful works of darkness—abortion, fornication race-baiting, the exaltation of theft and covetousness as virtues, sexual confusion, blasphemy, and radical unbelief—and be unable to find them anywhere. They will have passed away with their promoters. Let the door hit them where it hurts as they go out.

But is that all we have to do—repent, pray, and stop doing what everybody else is doing?

Yes, that’s all. God will do the rest. And our part is not as easy as it sounds. There will be big chunks of tribulation handed out.

But hold on, hold fast, hold out. Endure to the end. God hears our prayers. It is not His intention to give the kingdom to the wicked. He will not pack it in. He will not shrug His shoulders over the earth and walk away from it. This evil age will pass away when it has served its purpose. God will wad it in His hands and throw it out beyond the stars somewhere.

Hang tough, O men of God. It may be the last battle we are fighting here; or it may be just one of many battles on the road to the end. It’s not for us to know.

Hold on. Hold on to the Rock, repent, and pray.
