Do you ever get the feeling that our elected representatives don’t much represent us anymore? That maybe they might just tolerate us, if they ever took note of our existence?
Here in America, we just had an election in which the people smashingly rejected the ruling Democrat Party and its insane policies—and nothing’s happening. The victorious Republicans, instead of repealing Obamacare, just went on funding it. Instead of nullifying the president’s hugely unpopular and grossly unconstitutional erasure of our southern border, and his unilateral grant of amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, as if he were a king, they now ponder ways to “work with him.” It’s all the exact opposite of what the voters wanted.
But it’s worse in Europe. In the wake of increasingly frequent and more violent acts of terrorism perpetrated by Muslims with a mania for jihad, Europe’s leaders impotently fume and sputter, doing nothing to protect the people who elected them.
What—protect their people from being murdered? Oh, no—the leaders are much too busy fumfering around with imaginary threats like Global Warming, Homophobia, and Income Inequality—“problems” that can never be “solved” because they either don’t exist or are unalterable facets of reality. At the worst, the terrorists are guilty of interrupting them at their meditations.
Historian William Manchester, in his monumental biography of Winston Churchill, said the British people have never forgiven their pre-war ruling class for playing footsie with Hitler and allowing him to build the Third Reich into a military colossus which very nearly snuffed out Britain, and was only defeated at a staggering cost of death and suffering.
But is this not precisely what today’s European ruling class has done with Islam? Have they not mis-shepherded their countries into an extremely perilous position—from which they will not cheaply or easily escape?
Do the rulers think it’s a light thing to fritter away, and eventually forfeit, the trust of their people? Maybe they need to brush up on history: France in 1789, Russia in 1917, Germany from 1914 to 1933, the year Hitler seized power. Frustrating the people by their ineptitude, making them desperate by leading them into one disaster after another, never turns out well for anyone concerned.
Why do they do it? Because, as the Bible tells us, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22). There’s no fool like a fool who thinks he’s wise. They listen to no one, and warnings are wasted on them. This is the common failing of presidents, legislators, judges, college professors, bureaucrats, noozies, and movie stars: in short, our ruling class today—the biggest bunch of ninnies on the block.

It takes a real and vigorous exercise of melon-headedness to call a gang of masked gunmen shouting “Allahuakbar,” as they mow down an office full of defenseless civilians, anything but Muslim terrorists: and an even more shocking folly to keep on admitting them into one’s country. But if we were to list the deadly follies of our rulers, we’d be here all day.
Our public servants have become the public’s masters; and their vast wealth, their unaccountability, their back-slapping cocktail parties in the D.C. beltway and under the Alps at Davos, have made them blind to the danger in which they’ve placed themselves—not to mention all the rest of us.
Our rulers believe themselves infallible, as gods. Shut up, you miserable little peasants! You don’t know what’s good for you. Get out of the way and let us govern.
Pray, pray, and pray some more. It may be God will hear us. May He open our eyes and let us see these leaders for what they truly are.
