ABORTION AS A RIGHT

I am puzzled when I observe the attitude of liberated women about abortion. For some strange reason they seem to think of abortion as one of their basic rights. It is almost as if they consider abortion to be such a nice thing every woman ought to be able to enjoy one.

Liberated women have marched in the streets; argued in the legislatures and Congress; and flooded the media with demands for abortion rights. They teach their daughters to fight for abortion rights. They demand that schools teach abortion rights. Why? Is it possible these women have been conned?

I can understand why some men have been pleased with the idea of abortion as a right, and have actively supported women in claiming it; but women seem to be saying some very self-destructive things. They are saying:

I believe in a man's right to irresponsibility. I believe in a man's right to frequent casual sex. I believe in a man's right to love me and leave me. I believe in a man's right to sex without commitment. I believe in a man's right to order his offspring destroyed. I believe in a man's right to cast me aside if I become pregnant. I believe in a man's right not to be burdened by a child he has conceived. I believe in a man's right to lie about his involvement with me if the evidence is destroyed. I believe in every boy's right to have a mistress.

And what rights do LIBERATED women seek for themselves? In claiming the right to abortion they are saying:

I believe I have the right to sex without promise or commitment. I believe I have the right to say YES even if I would rather say NO. I believe I have the right to say YES because NO might hurt a man's feelings. I believe I have the right to serve men's sexual desires without complaint or demand. I believe I have the right to lend or sell my body to any man I choose, and as often as I like, so long as I don't place any burdens on him. I believe I have the right to be a good sport and get an abortion if the father does not want the responsibility of a child. I believe I have the right before the act to tell my lover, "Don't worry. If I get pregnant I'll have them scrape my womb and cut up your baby." I believe I have the right to kill any life that invades my womb. I believe I have the right to be submissive and foolish. I believe I have the right to indicate to my lover that I am submissive and foolish. I believe I have the right to teach my daughter, if I ever have one, to be submissive and foolish.

The LIBERATED women call abortion a RIGHT of women. I do find that difficult to understand.
