THE OMEN OF THE CHRISTIAN PARASITE

“Don’t shoot a coyote in the summer. It’s covered with ticks, and the hide too ugly to keep.”

That was the advice I received from a local hunter when I told him that I intended to shoot coyotes on my property that were eating my chickens and one of my ducks.

I caught a chicken-killing raccoon in a trap recently, and was disgusted to see it covered with ticks in all the places it couldn’t see. It was a good object lesson for the kids, how sin will suck the life out of you and you often can’t see the parasites without the mirror of God’s Word.

As a physician, I frequently see kids with pinworms, little round white worms that survive by consuming the nutrition in the host’s intestines. A skinny, pale-faced kid with an affinity for itching himself is often the only hint. Thousands of them can accumulate and cause intestinal blockage. These parasites survive by sucking just enough the nutrition out of their hosts to flourish and procreate, yet not so much as to provoke an immune response or kill the source of all their free meals. In return for some calories, they bring disease, pain, and itchy anuses.

In an age where almost half of Americans pay their bills with money coerced from the American taxpayer, the parasite analogy is all too applicable.

“Every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God” Ecclesiastes 3:13.

“If any would not work, neither should he eat” II Thessalonians 3:10.
“We hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread” II Thessalonians 3:11-12.
“Thou shalt not steal” Exodus 20:15.

“Nor thieves, nor covetous…. will inherit the kingdom of God” I Corinthians 6:9-11.

God’s law limits man’s freedom to exploit another. It is summed up in one word – “love.” The right to your life, your liberty, and your property come from God and are inalienable – that means, irrevocable except for a criminal conviction. No one has a right to take away that which God has given you.

One might steal from another, one might prosper through exploiting another’s hard work, one may employ the handcuffing force of government to take money from their neighbor for a cause to which their neighbor would not give willingly if he had the free choice, but they may not do it with the Lord’s blessing. They may not do it and escape the Lord’s judgment. One may play the parasite in sucking the blood of his neighbor, but they offend the Creator in the process. If someone does not love his neighbor whom he can see, how can he love God whom he cannot see? The Judge of all the earth remembers every sin, and will judge all according to their works, without respect to persons.

Many of us accept the status quo into which we are born without ever asking whether the status quo is compatible with God’s Word. Imagine a country where people were born into mandatory slavery three months a year. How many would accept their fate without so much as even praying for freedom? How many would accept the whips of the slave masters and wish nothing better for their posterity? How many would celebrate their nine months of freedom every July the 4th, not realizing that they’ve sold their birthright for a mess of pottage, a government handout?

The average American taxpayer spends three to five months a year working for the government, upon pain of fine, prison, or property confiscation. Why is that not slavery? Do you think you are free? Quit working for the government for just a tithe of those days and work for God instead, and see how they come after you with judicial writs and court dates and cuffs and fines. On what is all this accumulated wealth in our statehouses and in Washington, D.C. being spent? Most of it is expended to enrich the bureaucrats and their friends and causes. Most of it has no lawful justification; the apathy of the exploited is all the justification that the ambitious parasite needs.

With federal, state, and local governments finding themselves more and more strapped for money, we are seeing financial conflicts even rising to the precipice of violence. Mobs and vandals are breaking past statehouse security in Ohio and Wisconsin and demanding more money for less work at someone else’s expense.

In Ohio, emotions run high in statehouse committees, over church pews, and across dinner tables over Senate Bill 5, which gives lawmakers more power to barter with government unions. The fiscally conservative lawmakers want to cut costs, and they comprehend the injustice of taxpayers being forced to make cuts to stay competitive in a wilting economy while government workers continue to enrich themselves at the taxpayers’ expense.

The parasites? They want their regular raises and their plush benefits. The public school kindergarten teacher doesn’t care if she makes three times more money than the best paid private school kindergarten teacher who pays their salary. The government janitor doesn’t care if his benefits package is three times more expensive than the best paid janitor in the private sector who is taxed for his perks. The swarms of government workers peddling welfare checks, bailouts, and handouts care not whether the state budges are shrinking and the taxpayers are suffering. Government workers and bloated bureaucrats care not whether their hosts are emaciated with taxes, fees, unemployment, and inflation. The parasites unite and vote, write letters to the editor, sign petitions, rally, and pray for more of another’s wealth. Their teeth dug in deep into the taxpayers’ bank accounts, they grow fat with the blood of the private workers..

“The love of money is the root of all evil” – it’s also the root of all communism and socialism that has plagued the past century with corruption, poverty, starvation, concentration camps, gulags, and holocausts. Over-reaction? Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it. When the state can get away with violating the law of God in stealing the wealth and confiscating the property of another to give to their campaign contributors, their favorite charities, and their friends back in their district, none of our rights are safe.

After all, if the state has the power to steal from another for the benefit of a few, why stop at stealing? If God-given rights can be trampled as some employ the force of the state to steal another’s property and wealth, then what rights are secure? God’s law comes as a package deal: “He that keepeth the whole law and offends in one point is guilty of all” (James 2:10). When the foundation of liberty is undermined in society, when the law of God has been utterly rejected for the artificial and arbitrary edicts of sinful men, we’re heading down the slippery slope that ends in tyranny and judgment.

Unions are compatible with divine law when men unite to fight oppression and theft; but when the oppressors and thieves unite to oppress and steal from the taxpayers, or to maintain their status quo salaries and benefits that are far beyond what similar workers make in the private sector, men unionize against the author of our God-given rights. When men unite to steal, democracy has become a tool of evil that will destroy freedom.

Historian Alexander Tytler famously said, “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.”

Clamor at the treasury of the government for someone else’s hard-earned money, and you roll out the red carpet for tyranny to enslave your children and grand-children.

If you love Jesus Christ, I urge you to into the fray to begin to resist the parasites that threaten our freedom. Standing for righteousness in society is the church’s moral mandate. Loving our neighbor is our obligation to their Maker. Get off the government teat, fellow Christian, as if your children’s freedom depended on it. Don’t take “the mark” of the state to buy or sell, for the mark is man at war with God. Better to starve or lose your head than to serve a man and defy God.

Nations that have walked the path that we are walking now face tyrannies more oppressive and cruel than most of us can even imagine. Whole generations were enslaved because the salt lost its savor. National judgment begins at the house of God; before God judges the nation for sin, He judges the salt for tolerating it. The Bible shows and history confirms that the Lord will topple His own candlesticks and toss them out into the dunghill to be trodden under the foot of men. Be warned, church of America, God will not be mocked; whatsoever we sow, that shall we reap. Say not “We are the blessed children of God and the Lord will rapture us before our nation sees judgment” for God is able of these stones to raise up children and many nations with lesser sins have been annihilated already. To whom much is given, much is required, and with our Christian heritage and our wealth, the United States of American have been given so very much. Judgment comes swiftly to our shores; we must repent and return to the law of God as the standard without which we will not long remain free.
