Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

The tumbling down of the Twin Towers of Babel on Tuesday morning was the final symbolic act in a 40 year balancing act of a culture in decay. As our American sense of security was shattered as surely as Humpty Dumpty in his great fall the pundits and prognosticators are filling the air waves with explanations of how this could happen to America...on American soil. The nation watched in horror as the bastions of power and wealth crumbled before our very eyes. The seeming invincibility of American life, cracked like an egg , sent our leaders scrambling to pick up the pieces of our shattered conceptions.

As I watched our president address a shattered nation on Tuesday night in an attempt to reassure America that things were under control, my heart was embedded with the realization that we are a nation in denial. Our "compassionate" president looked into our souls and uttered the trite, matter-of-fact salutation so common today, "God bless America". I could not dismiss the question echoing through my mind.

"WHY"? "WHY SHOULD GOD BLESS AMERICA?"

America, the only nation in the history of the world founded on the premise that our rights and privileges have been "endowed by our Creator", flourished for over 200 years under the Divine protection of God. In the midst of a degenerating culture, we live under the illusion that God is, and always will be, on our side. God IS on His own side. We have turned our back on Him.

Whenever a tragic event occurs we immediately turn to God. We pray for His Guidance, His Blessing, His Protection. Like a wad of money stuck in a sock and placed under our mattress we have the security of knowing we have Him in reserve. Jesus-on-the-spot, like super-glue, will come and put us back together. As the dust settles over Manhattan and the days turn into weeks America will once again begin to rebuild the man-made fortresses of finance, and pentagons of power. As our own strength recovers we will wrap God neatly in our sock and hide Him away under our bed, storing him up for the next event that seems out of our control. We will recover. We will turn to the king’s horse, the security of finances, and to the king’s men, the pundits in government, and rely on our own power and our own wisdom to restore our national soul.

Well, not this time. I’m not interested in the king’s horses, or the king’s men. They can’t put this one back together . No, not this time. We need more.

IT IS TIME TO CALL THE KING

For over forty years, God-fearing Americans have stood silently as the true foundations of America have been collapsing under the weight of a society bent on elimination of God.

IT IS TIME TO WELCOME THE KING BACK

This once great nation, founded and formed on the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, expanded and prospered by the Blessings of God, knowing that "righteousness exaulteth a nation", stood the test of time against foes, foreign and domestic.

Renewed by the blood of God-fearing patriots, laying down their lives for a cause greater than themselves, they secured the blessing of liberty for their posterity. Generations of Americans, understanding the role of Divine Providence, Protection, and Provision in this great experiment in self-government, placed God at the center of all they did. One nation, under God. What has gone wrong?

The one-time guardian of Truth in America, the Christian Church has been defanged. The off-spring of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah has become Felix the Cat. The pulpits of America once aflame with the call for righteousness have given themselves over to the dictates of men. Today’s church, more concerned with bake sales than souls, with raising buildings rather than standards, have traded the Truth of God for a lie and become sugar in a decaying culture crying for salt. The flames in the pulpits have been doused . They have been replaced with the smoke and steam of moral relativism. The current watered down, seeker-friendly gospel so pervasive today has mislead a conscience-seared church into loving the things that God hates, unable to recognize Truth and too intimidated to defend it if they did.

It’s time we faced the facts. When Dr. Spock said not to spank our children, we built self esteem. When Madeline Murray said praying offended here son, we stopped. The hippies cried "make love, not war," we obeyed. Our courts said to separate the church from the state, we did. Jane Roe said she had a right to choose and we agreed. Praying in schools made some uncomfortable so we accommodated them. We were told that everyone lies about sex, so we returned him to office. Knowing the Truth of God, we exchanged it for a lie. We have place the opinions of the Supreme Court above the Word of the Supreme Being.

YOU TELL ME. WHY SHOULD GOD BLESS AMERICA?

Don’t blame Bin Laden, or Islam, or Saddam Hussein. They were committed to their cause. Point the finger directly at the lukewarm, lazy, uncommitted Christians, selling their birthright for a bigger home, SUV, and a more prosperous lifestyle. "It’s the economy stupid." They told us and we ignored God’s warning "You reap what you sow". The chickens have come home to roost.

It is time to restore righteousness to this nation. If we are to expect God’s hand to stay upon this nation then it is time to stand for the foundational principles upon which this land was founded. America has become a lawless nation. A spiritual coup-de-tat has taken place. God has been outlawed and now the outlaws are playing God.

II Chron. 7:14 says "If my people, called by my name...". The key to America’s future is God’s people. God allowed fire from the sky to shake America, to call HIS people to "humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their own wicked ways" His promise is to "forgive your sins and heal your land". It is time for the Christian Church to quit pointing the finger elsewhere. The blessings of God for America depend on what "HIS" people do.

In 1830 Alexis DeTocqueville said:

"I sought the key to the greatness and genius of America in her harbors, in her fertile fields, in her boundless forests, in her rich mines, in her vast world commerce, in her public systems of education and institutions of higher learning. I sought for it in her democratic congress and her matchless Constitution.

But it was not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness that I understood the secret of her genius and of her power. America is great because America is good. And if America ever ceases to be good, then she will also cease to be great."
