Other Sheriffs Need to Take The Lead

IS THE END UPON US?
By Jim R. Schwiesow March
8, 2007 It is no secret that Iran looms large in the sights of the United States military. The Iranian fanatic Ahmadinejad has adroitly maneuvered an increasingly befuddled George Bush into preparation for yet another war. We have here a clash between a fatalist who believes that the time has arrived for the fulfillment of Islamic prophesy, which teaches that a divine war will usher in the emergence of a perfect human being, the 12th Imam, who will lead the world to peace, and another poor deluded soul, George Bush, who thinks that he is being divinely led to wage wars for democracy. He has been encouraged in this belief by an increasingly secularly inclined religious community in the country. It seems that heretical beliefs hold sway in the world today. President Ahmandinejad has cunningly used President Bushs blundering stupidity in enfolding the United States into an Iraqi morass, which is rapidly depleting the country in regard to resources, to lay the groundwork for an apocalyptic religious war. The United States is today, as never before, vulnerable to a cataclysmic fall from the absolute supremacy that it has enjoyed throughout the past generation. The recent near melt down of the markets was just a tremor, in a probable series of tremors, which could very well lead to a catastrophic collapse of the economy should Mr. Bush continue to largely deplete U.S. resources by warring on non-democratic governments and theocracies. Although the signs of such a failure reverberate throughout the world, the Bush administration continues to pursue its current, and completely ignorant and bound to fail, policy of democratizing, by war, middle-eastern Islamic societies. Any gains in that regard are bound to be fleeting and transitory. Even a fool should be able to read the signs, which point to an inevitable coming together of societies, which share the same theology, and whos religious differences are differences between sects rather than differences in regard to a theology, which teaches that the entire world should consist entirely of Muslims, and that any who exist outside of the Islamic community are infidels worthy only of slaughter and extinction. Despite U.S. efforts the entire Persian Gulf region will most likely be eventually united by a shared political system other than democracy. The fact is that the U.S. teeters on an historical precipice, a myriad of negative factors are rapidly coalescing, which are bringing about forces that will cause, if not abated, the nation to overbalance on the fulcrum upon which it rests and slide from its lofty perch into disintegration and oblivion. And we see an ever-increasing amount of evidence each day to support such a supposition. Thus it appears that before George W. Bush is out of office he may preside over a fall from world power of a historically huge magnitude. Like Captain Queeg he has been busily navigating in circles and is about to steam over his own towline and cut the nation loose from its dominant position in the world. It is an unhappy position that the President finds himself in. He is surrounded by mental incompetents with little in the way of discernment and wisdom, and deprived of political allies in the Congress, who were turned out of office because of an alienation of the electorate brought about by his own petty stubbornness and stupidity. Yet he continues along a pathological course, through historically dangerous times, on both the international and the domestic fronts. Indeed Mr. Bush is the perfect caricature of Captain Queeg sweating in the face of an interrogation as to his competency, and justifying his actions with a fumbling, rambling and often disjointed discourse about nothing more significant than a quart of strawberries. Adding to the vulnerability of the United States is the fact that its society no longer rests upon moral underpinnings. The people hum along through life with an, if it feels good do it attitude seemingly unaware, or uncaring, that disaster stares them in the face. They happily give up their freedoms and acquiesce to dictatorial incursions upon their privacy, in the name of security, like puppies of carefree abandon. Their idea of being well-adjusted is whether or not they can accumulate property and enjoy the finer things in life. No sacrifice - no change is their motto. Buoyed by the delusive theology taught by false religious leaders they reject moral absolutes. Money is their god; they worship in the temple of materialism. A perfect example of this mindset is presented when one views FOX News television. The content of their programming seems to be almost exclusively dedicated to the veneration of materialism, consumerism, and the markets. Billionaires are extolled and wealthy investors are held up as examples to be emulated. Heroes, in their eyes, are those who claw their way to the top in regard to affluence and social status. To be sure money is their god. The signs of our eventual demise are all there, boldly present and ever increasing. Yet, if this disaster, which could be just beyond the horizon, strikes it will take most of the people of this nation completely by surprise. One can imagine that the immediate prevalent thought would be, heck we have been through these setbacks before and survived quite well. It is an apathetic national attitude that has helped to shape the ill-conceived actions of the government both domestically and internationally. Mr. Bush has deployed two naval battle groups to the Persian Gulf; his ear is inclined to those who, in the past, have urged him to undertake unwise military campaigns. Always there has seemed to be some initial success in these incursions and a concomitant temporary euphoria. Then reality sets in, but it sets in too late. Our military is committed to a no win war and nobody has the guts to admit the mistake and take action to extricate the nation from an unequivocally detestable situation. The politicians dawdle while the conflict takes its toll in regard to lives and the nations economy. The people go blithely on their way ignorant of the true state of the nation. They are fed propaganda daily, which suggests that since we are the most powerful nation in the world today we have nothing to fear, but fear itself. The media sings the praises of the economy, and a bear market and thriving consumerism covers the fact that rottenness and decay are eating away at the foundation of the nation, and have been doing so for an extended period of time. Mr. Ahmadinejad may be a fanatic, but he is no fool. He has cataloged every move of the Bush administration. He is so familiar with the behavior of Mr. Bush and his cronies in the administration, that I suspect he knows what they will do before they do it. He wants a holy war, he craves a holy war, and in his mind he needs a holy war to usher in the Mahdi, the heir to all prophets. He has set his trap and baited it with care, If Mr. Bush reacts in the manner that he expects him to react, he will have his holy war, and the United States will be poised for disaster. It seems that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. That war, if, or when, it comes could very well be the proverbial straw, which breaks the camels back. In this case the camels back is the nations economy. This is our Achilles heel. The United States is already over committed in regard to its military. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have taken a heavy toll on the nations resources and stretched the economy to the limit, and the unsound fiscal policies of congress have greatly exacerbated the problem. A war with Iran would certainly send oil prices - already high - through the roof. This could set in motion a series of events, which would seriously weaken the stability of the markets worldwide, and U.S. markets are now inextricably entwined with the markets of the world. The United States is a debtor nation, and has borrowed heavily to finance its deficit. In many regards foreign investors control our destiny. If there is a run on the dollar, which drastically erodes confidence in U.S. commerce, huge divestments might ensue, which could, and probably would, precipitate a catastrophic collapse of stock market prices and a banking crisis, which would, conceivably, cause a depression of a magnitude greater than the 1929 debacle. And that would be just the beginning of the end for a nation that has seemingly lost it way.
