Portland Public Schools, the largest school district in Oregon, passed a Resolution on April 19, 2016 that ought to be called ‘How to brainwash 49,000 students and force teachers to teach communism’.
The objectives laid out in this Resolution are startling, revealing and directly aligned with the Green movement’s national plan, now underway, to politically indoctrinate America’s children.
The Portland Public Schools (PPS) Resolution No. 5272 is a “Resolution to Develop an Implementation Plan for Climate Literacy”. This Resolution gained national attention for banning books that question the validity of global warming claims. The Resolution states:
“PPS will abandon the use of any adopted text material that is found to express doubt about the severity of the climate crisis or its root in human activities.”
Banning books is only the tip of this political iceberg. This Resolution is designed to 1) silence teachers, students and parents that do not share the PPS view on climate-change, 2) diminish the value of free thought and, 3) pave the way for environmental groups to politically indoctrinate 49,000 children (Oregon’s future voters).
Key goals outlined in the Portland Resolution include:
• redefine our economies and call for an end to the fossil fuel era
• develop and implement curriculum that addresses climate change and climate justice in all Portland Public Schools (pre-K through 12th grade)
• all students should see themselves as activists and leaders for social justice and environmental justice
What does the PPS mandate for “all students” to see themselves as activists for social justice and environmental justice entail? What does social justice mean? Facing the Future, one of the leading Education for Sustainability groups, defines social justice as:
“Social justice is the movement towards eliminating oppression and ultimately achieving equality in the distribution of goods and wealth among all groups in a society.”
Training “all students” to be social justice activists requires every student to conform and to adopt the political belief that ‘all wealth and goods must be distributed equally’ within our society.
In other words, brainwash innocent children and train students to be political activists so they will vote to impose social justice policies as adults.
What Would It Take To Achieve Social Justice?
Before ‘all wealth and goods’ could be distributed equally, ‘all wealth and goods’ would first have to be seized and controlled. Achieving social justice would require dictatorial power over the American people.
The CIA (United States Central Intelligence Agency) defines a Communist system of government as:
“Communist – a system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single – often authoritarian – party holds power; state controls are imposed with the elimination of private ownership of property or capital while claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.”
Communism eliminates “private ownership of property or capital” to control people and is based on the idea that all wealth and “all goods are equally shared”. Social justice is communism.
Portland’s social justice mandate means using public education to train “all students” to be AGAINST our form of government and to be FOR imposing a communist form of government.
Another confirmation teaching social justice is politically motivated comes from a May 4, 2016 article in REASON magazine titled, Oregon State University Will Force Incoming Students to Take Social Justice Training, by Robby Soave. Soave ties Oregon State to instilling left-wing values, to indoctrination and to students being ‘trained not taught’.
The following statement, from the outline for a ‘Social Justice Minor’ at Oregon State, confirms Oregon State is aware of teaching this political goal:
“Social justice includes a vision of society in which the distribution of resources is equitable”
Taxpayer funded schools are being used to dictate public policy. For instance, the Portland Resolution indicates students will be trained to adopt the PPS climate position on the following issues:
“the climate crisis is created by human beings releasing greenhouse gases by mining and burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas); through deforestation; and with environmentally damaging agricultural practices”
The scientific debate on global warming is far from over. Prominent scientists have changed their position based on evidence. After dire predictions about global warming did not come to pass and false claims were exposed, the environmental movement renamed the issue ‘climate-change’. Climate-change is a general idea that can be twisted to impose more pieces of the Green agenda in schools and elsewhere.
Before climate-change curriculum is imposed on 49,000 students in Portland it would be wise to take a closer look at the political agenda of those pushing this curriculum. Endorsers of the Resolution included the Sierra Club, University of Portland and Rethinking Schools; which was one of the leading groups. A KOIN 6 news report on the PPS Resolution included the following excerpts:
“Bill Bigelow, a former PPS teacher and current curriculum editor of Rethinking Schools, a magazine devoted to education issues, worked with 350PDX and other environmental groups to present the resolution.”
“Bigelow is also the co-author of a textbook on environmental education, A People’s Curriculum for the Earth.”
“What we’re looking for is a whole different model of curriculum development and distribution.”
A Whole Different Model of Curriculum?
“Rethinking Schools is a nonprofit publisher and advocacy organization dedicated to sustaining and strengthening public education through social justice teaching and education activism.”
The PPS directive to teach “all students” to be social justice activists also conveniently aligns with Bigelow’s book, A People’s Curriculum for the Earth, which features contributions from left-wing activists such as, Van Jones, Bill McKibben, Winona La Duke (former Green Party Presidential candidate) and Derrick Jensen. Social Justice is one of the top 10 Green Party goals.
Rethinking Schools was instrumental in creating the Zinn Education Project, which is dedicated to teaching the political ideas of the late Howard Zinn in America’s schools. The following excerpt is from the August 2, 2010 American Spectator article, The Case Against Howard Zinn, by Robert Stacy McCain:
“The FBI files demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that Zinn — author of A People’s History of the United States, widely used as a textbook or supplement in many of our nation’s high schools and universities — was a card-carrying Communist at a time when the Soviet Union was America’s most dreaded enemy.”
Zinn’s involvement in the Communist Party and other revolutionary groups throughout his life prompted an on-going FBI investigation. The FBI file on Zinn is over 400 pages long. Zinn’s commitment to communism is relevant today. Rethinking Schools editor Bill Bigelow is the author of the book, A People’s History for the Classroom, which is “pegged directly to Zinn's work.“
People have a right to their beliefs. A political movement or party does not have a right to use public education to impose their beliefs on America’s children.
Green Communism:
The environmental movement is using politicized curriculum, such as Climate Literacy, Education for Sustainability, Environmental Literacy and Social Justice, to impose their beliefs, which mirror Green Party goals and communism, on America’s children.
Lenin, the Father of Communism, promised ‘peace, bread and land for all’ but what followed was mass oppression, suffering and the murder of innocent people.
The Greens are promoting the idea that social justice and the ‘equitable distribution of wealth and goods’ is necessary to save the planet. The goal is to take control of all wealth and goods. Even Al Gore understands communism is bad for the environment.
“And it is no accident that the very worst environmental tragedies were created by communist governments, in which the power of the state completely overwhelms the capabilities of the individual steward.” - Al Gore, Earth in the Balance
Thousands of Americans; ranchers, farmers, fisherman, loggers and countless other individual stewards have already been overwhelmed and harmed by unreasonable regulations demanded by the environmental movement. Those regulations, just like environmental education, need to be reevaluated because the environmental movement has proven to be a communist front.
The Green movement’s invasion of our schools is occurring on a national scale. Steps to politically indoctrinate America’s children are underway. Teaching communism in our schools is harmful and a violation of the public trust. Free thought, individual freedom and the democratic process are at risk.

The issue of political indoctrination needs to be addressed on the local, state and national level immediately. Parental rights, religious freedom, free enterprise, private property rights and so much more are on the line.
