Sanctuary Cities Start Rejecting Democrat’s Immigration Enforcement Policies

By NWV Senior Political News Writer, Jim Kouri

Following the massacre of American Mormon women and children by alleged drug cartel members in Mexico – which the news media attempted to downplay – a growing number of Americans are revisiting their city’s, county’s or state’s sanctuary policies to protect illegal aliens from federal law enforcement officers.

For example, voters in the “Blue City” of Tucson, Arizona on last Tuesday’s election day gave an overwhelming “thumbs down” for a ballot initiative that would have made it the sole sanctuary city in what many regard a red state.

The ballot initiative to declare the city a sanctuary for illegal immigrants surprisingly lost the supported of the mayor and city council, all of whom are left-wing Democrats, who said the initiative risked public safety and millions of dollars the city gets from the state and federal governments.

The ballot measure was pushed by far-left activists who oppose the federal laws regarding immigration. They also believed it was a first step in giving political power to Tucson’s Latino community. They claimed it would have sent the message that immigrants are safe and protected in Tucson at a time when many are fearful of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The Latino leadership and political activists also see it as being a step-or-two backward to giving illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections or holding public office.

The initiative, known as Proposition 205, would have hampered police officer from  inquiring about the immigration status of a suspect arrested for a criminal act or prevented them from  cooperating with federal law enforcement officials from Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and others involved in capturing illegal immigrants and confiscating illegal drugs, firearms, and other contraband.

In the state of Maryland, Montgomery County is a deep, dark blue section of the U.S. even by Maryland’s usual left-wing standards. Although, President Trump only received less than 20% of the vote there in 2016, officeholders have seen the light on at least one issue, Sanctuary for Illegal Immigrants.

Officials in Montgomery County, outside of Washington, D.C.,  have dropped an important part portion of their sanctuary policy — which had been shielding criminal illegal aliens from deportation — following a series of sex crimes allegedly committed by illegal aliens.

ABC 7 News’ Kevin Lewis writes that “Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich (D) has ‘quietly reversed’ the county’s sanctuary policy whereby agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency had been banned from entering secure locations of the county jail to properly take custody over illegal aliens charged with federal crimes.

Now, Montgomery County officials will allow ICE agents to place a detainer on criminal illegal aliens in their custody and schedule a date and time to pick up those suspects from certain areas of the county jail.

“However, immigration enforcement agents are still refused access to county-owned facilities such as libraries and police stations,” said retired police officer Jan Murray, who later served as director of security for an international corporation..

“I really believe this partial dropping of the county’s sanctuary policy comes after at least nine illegal aliens had been charged with sex crimes and rape — often against children — in the region over the course of just two months,” he added.
