Discovering America’s Christian Heritage
Part 23 Christian Values Attacked Part 2
Foundation Scripture:
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children
Our Schools
In our education system we have seen the government completely secularize the teaching. Since 1962, Engel vs Vitale, we have seen students test score decline at an unbelievable rate. Scores have dropped from the 970’s in 1962 to the 880’s in just a few years. In International testing for math and science American high school students finish last, or in the bottom half. Overall test results for all grade levels show American elementary school students above average, American middle school students average, but American high school students are at the bottom. When the churches controlled the schools we were putting students into colleges at 12 and 14.
Charles Carroll, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, entered college at age 10, Fisher Ames entered Harvard at the age of 12, Benjamin Rush graduated from Princeton at 14! John Trumbull who was a law student under John Adams, justice on the Connecticut Supreme Court, had read through the Bible at the age of 4 and at 6 he beat his local minister in a Greek contest, at 7 ½ he passed the entrance exam at Yale, but his parents held him out of college until he was 13. Fourteen year olds were being sent to foreign countries to act as aids to our ambassadors. America used to be at the top when scored for literacy but recently we were ranked 65th out of 200 nations with several third-world nations scoring higher than us. Illiteracy is so bad that among recent high school graduates 700,000 could not read their diplomas.
I have stated recently in several articles I have written that the NEA needs to be done away with completely and rebuilt from the ground up using the teaching methods that put our students on the top in the past. I sent an 8th grade final exam from 1895 to a college professor and he was amazed at the complexity of that exam. I could not pass that test today and I don’t think many in most of our colleges could pass it either. Some states allow some form of school choice, charter schools, home school, or private schools. Most parents can’t afford these options and the NEA in their 2010 resolutions are calling for the federal government to not allow ANY other form of schooling but government run schools.
Even if the federal government allows other forms, the NEA wants the curriculum to be the same as public schools with no variation. They are doing this because when a student who was schooled at home or in a charter school goes up against a student from a public school in a spelling bee or public debate, the public school student is shown to be wanting. A home schooled student is quite often two grades ahead in most subjects and their test scores are typically 20-30% higher. Public schools can’t accomplish this.
We have allowed evolution to get a foothold into our schools even when only 10-14% of our population believes in evolution. The NEA refuses to allow ‘intelligent design’ to be taught even when ALL the evidence points that direction. We have allowed the schools to teach that Thanksgiving was celebrated to give thanks to the Indians for helping the pilgrims through the rough winters even though ALL documentation states that it was to give thanks to God. We don’t teach that all of the colonies were founded by ministers because the NEA doesn’t want to teach that ministers do any good.
Our Courts
Our judicial system has been overtaken by judges with ideologies that conflict with our Constitution and they will not adjudicate according to our Constitution. They go by how they feel it should be.
Prayer in public schools had been allowed for over 300 years. 171 years of that under the Constitution, but because we began to allow justices that did not agree with the Constitution to sit on the bench, we have begun to see the Constitution be ignored and subverted to the ideologies of the men and women that sit on the courts which includes the removal of school prayer in 1962 using a phrase that is not found in any of our founding documents, separation of church and state.
This case was decided without giving any previous case as precedence. The next year the reading of the Bible in schools was determined to be unconstitutional even though it had been endorsed by Benjamin Rush, Noah Webster, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Jedidiah Morse, William Samuel Johnson and even Thomas Jefferson. Again, the courts gave no legal precedence or historical precedence. They did use the testimony of a psychologist who stated: “If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could be and had been psychologically harmful to the students.”
In installing judges with ideologies that oppose the history of America, we have seen rights taken away from the citizens and we have seen our religious heritage be removed from public domain. In Stone v. Graham it was determined by the court that it was unconstitutional for a student to see the Ten Commandments posted in a public school. The Court explained that “If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to have any effect at all, it will be to induce the schoolchildren to read, meditate upon, perhaps to venerate and obey the Commandments and this is not permissible.
I remember selling copies of the Ten Commandments at school in the 1950’s raising funds for our church. It has gone so far now that we cannot display the Ten Commandments in our courts, even though they are the foundation for our laws. Moses is carved in stone in the Supreme Court of the United States holding the Ten Commandments yet that same court said that Alabama could not display the Ten Commandments in its Court House.
We are allowing the courts to remove what gave us our freedoms, Christianity. We will never regain the culture we once had until we learn to stand for what we know is right.
Christians don’t fight very well. They are not good in confrontations. We have not been taught enough that we are to be the light of the world. You can’t be that if you won’t stand for what is right. 2 Timothy 1:7” For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” If we have been given the spirit of power, love and a sound mind, why don’t we use it? Fear is where most Christians reside. The homosexual community, which is less than 3% of the population, is shoving their lifestyle down our throats and we do nothing about it. We need to have that same bulldog tenacity to stand for what is right.

If we don’t, we’ll lose the greatest nation this world has ever seen. We need to take back our government, take back our schools and universities, we need to take back the entertainment industry and we need to take back the pulpit and use it for what God intended us to use it for, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, without shame and with boldness.
