About the Author: Rees Lloyd
Rees Lloyd is a recently retired longtime civil rights attorney and veterans activist whose work has been honored by, among others, the California Senate and Assembly, the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, and numerous civil rights, workers rights, veterans rights, and religious organizations.
He is the co-founder and attorney for the Defense of Veterans Memorials Project. As such, he has participated in successful litigation up to the U.S. Supreme Court to save Christian Crosses at veterans memorials, representing the American Legion Department of California, its District 21 and Posts 79 and 291; and representing also the Patriot Outreach veterans service organization based in Kansas, which he currently serves as legal counsel. Attorney Lloyd has testified as a constitutional expert at hearings before the U.S. House and Senate representing the National American Legion. In 2018, the Alliance Defending Freedom, one of America’s premier defenders of religious freedom, honored Lloyd with its “Bronze Service Award” for “over 2,500 hours of pro bono attorney work for the Body of Christ.” Lloyd has received also the Defender of the Faith award of the California Pacific School of Theology, presented by its internationally famed founder, the late Rev. Dr. I.D.E. Thomas. Attorney Lloyd has been profiled, and his work featured, by such varied print media as the Los Angeles Times and American Legion Magazine, and such broadcast media as ABC's Nightline and 20/20, Fox News In The Morning, and, among others, by Sean Hannity. His writings have appeared in a variety of
