“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.” -John 10:4-5

This last weekend, we finally had an opportunity, after 3 years of no snow, to go out and snowmobile. I took my youngest out and it was a blast to say the least. Yet, there was one little problem on our venture together.  My headlight went out so I had to follow him or I couldn’t see enough to stay on course and it would pose a serious danger.

After we were done, I had told my son how important it was to know the Word of God (John 7:17) and to keep his eyes fixed on the Lord (Hebrews 12:2).

I went on and asked him if he noticed how I stayed behind him when we were on the paths.  He said he did.  I asked him if he knew why I did that and he answered you wouldn’t have been able to see the paths because your light on your snowmobile was out.  I responded with “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).

“Furthermore, you know at times that dad had to yell out to you so we wouldn’t separate,” I said.  “That is why it is also important to know the Lord’s voice the way that you know mine so you stay on the right path.”

My son acknowledged what I was telling him.

“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.” -John 10:4-5
