In a continued comparison of the two platforms it is obvious to see that the Democrat platform leans toward more government and less freedoms for the American people while the Republican Platform leans toward keeping the dictates of the Constitution keeping a smaller government and returning the freedoms the Americans have lost over the years.
The Republican Platform calls for the government to make the defense of America a top priority. Democrats want to cut defense spending even though we are at dangerously low levels now. This includes securing our border. On page two of the Republican Platform it states: “Republicans Believe Our National Borders Must Be Secured
Our determination to uphold the rule of law begins with more effective enforcement, giving our agents the tools and resources they need to protect our sovereignty, completing the border fence quickly and securing the borders, and employing complementary strategies to secure our ports of entry. Experience shows that enforcement of existing laws is effective in reducing and reversing illegal immigration. (P. 3.)
Our determination to uphold the rule of law begins with . . . completing the border fence quickly and securing the borders, and employing complementary strategies to secure our ports of entry. (P. 3.)” Democrats refer to our wanting to secure our borders and protect our citizens as racist. Patriotism is called many things these days other than what it really is.
Republicans believe that our armed forces should only be under our command and not the United Nations. Quoted from page two of the platform it states: “As a matter of U.S. sovereignty, American forces must remain under American command.” Democrats have no problem turning over authority to a foreign entity. As witnessed in the last couple years the Obama administration and the Democrat party is more than willing to let the United Nations decide what laws America can and cannot enforce.
Republicans believe that Federal funding for abortion should be banned but the Democrats believe that an abortion should be paid for by taxpayers no matter what a persons convictions are concerning the beginning of life. On page three of the Platform it reads: “Republicans Abhor Federal Funding Of Abortions Anywhere
We strongly support the long-held policy of the Republican Party known as the Mexico City policy, which prohibits federal monies from being given to non-governmental organizations that provide abortions or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other countries. We reject any treaty or agreement that would violate those values.”
Because America is a sovereign nation and we have our Constitution that sets our laws Republicans don’t believe that any foreign government has the right to have jurisdiction over us. The Democrats have no problem with an International Court stepping in and taking over our laws. The liberal jurists on the Supreme Court have stated that we need to use international law in our courts and have used international laws in deciding cases even though they have sworn to uphold the Constitution. This is how they over turned Texas’ sodomy law under the Bush administration. Republicans reject the idea of Americans being subjected to international laws that conflict with our Constitutional rights. The Platform states on page three: “Republicans Reject the Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over Americans- To shield the members of our Armed Forces and others in service to America from ideological prosecutions, the Republican Party does not accept the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over Americans.”
We have strong allies in the Middle East and we need to support them. Page three states this concerning Israel: “Republicans Support A Free and Secure Israel – Israel is a vigorous democracy, unique in the Middle East. We reaffirm America’s commitment to Israel’s security and will ensure that Israel maintains a qualitative edge in military technology over any potential adversaries. Israel must have secure, defensible borders and we support its right to exist as a Jewish state able to defend itself against homicide bombings, rocket and mortar fire, and other attacks against its people.” We support and fund many nations that are enemies of not just Israel but America as well.
Republicans want to reduce the tax load on not only the American people but businesses as well. The Democrats want to increase the taxes on those who “don’t pay their fair share”. These are the people that are already paying 80% of taxes paid now. 48% of the people pay no taxes at all. Republicans Support Reducing Corporate Tax Rates: We support a major reduction in the corporate tax rate so that American companies stay competitive with their foreign counterparts and American jobs can remain in this country. One of the biggest reasons businesses are moving offshore is because of the fact that the US has the highest business tax rates in the world. Democrats want to increase them which will exacerbate the problem. Republicans want to sole the problem.
One of the biggest differences there is between the two Parties is in the field of healthcare. The Democrats want single payer healthcare, which has never been successful anywhere it has been implemented, and the Republicans believe that free market with competition is the best solution. After all it was that system that gave us the best healthcare system in the world until government regulations bogged it down and turned it into a system too expensive to keep. The Republican platform states: Republicans Support Your Right to Not Have Government Interfere With Your Healthcare
Republicans support the private practice of medicine and oppose socialized medicine in the form of a government-run universal health care system. Republicans pledge that as we reform our health care system:
– We will protect citizens against any and all risky restructuring efforts that would complicate or ration health care.
– We will encourage health promotion and disease prevention.
– We will facilitate cooperation, not confrontation, among patients, providers, payers, and
all stakeholders in the health care system.
– We will not put government between patients and their health care providers.
– We will not put the system on a path that empowers Washington bureaucrats at the expense of patients.
– We will not raise taxes instead of reducing health care costs.
– We will not replace the current system with the staggering inefficiency, maddening irrationality, and uncontrollable costs of a government monopoly.
Keeping with upholding the Constitution the Republicans believe that the government should guarantee the rights provided in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights where as the Democrats believe that the Constitution is something that changes with time.
The Republicans are willing to keep government from infringing on these rights. Concerning the Second Amendment their platform states: Republicans Will Not Infringe the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms: We uphold the right of individual Americans to own firearms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment. We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision in Heller affirming that right, and we assert the individual responsibility to safely use and store firearms. We call on the next president to appoint judges who will similarly respect the Constitution. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend themselves, their property, and communities. In August of 2015 in a interview with the Des Moines Register Hillary stated “I will get the NRA shut down for good if I become president. If we can ban handguns we will do it.” The Democrats are willing to deny the American people their right for self defense showing no regard for the Constitution.
