Oregon’s Senate super-majority is certainly busy with the new legislative session getting into full-swing. Democrat Legislators are now pushing a wild concept in SB 916. This is legislation that would allow workers who engage in a strike to collect unemployment benefits from Oregon’s taxpayers.
Only the deep-blue, economically challenged states of New York and New Jersey engage in this type of fiscal fantasy. The business climate in Oregon can’t possibly sustain the burden of this of legislative effort. Notably, New York and New Jersey do this and are two of the states that rank even worse than Oregon for business climate, according to the 2024 CNBC America’s Top States for Business productivity rankings.
Oregon’s unemployment insurance system is designed to support workers who lose their jobs involuntarily. It was never meant to incentivize workers to walk off the job. Expanding benefits to striking workers and union members would not only increase costs for employers but everyone else too.
The Democrat super-majority fails to realize that government policies are the main contributor to higher prices not hardworking business entrepreneurs. In fact, businesses, entrepreneurs, taxpayers and families will simply pack up and leave Oregon in order to achieve their goals for life and happiness.
The public hearing on SB 916 continues, TODAY, Tuesday, Feb. 11. We encourage every Oregonian to submit testimony and contact lawmakers to oppose this misguided proposal.

The truth is, our twelve Republican Senators cannot stop a bad bill like SB 916 if the Democrat majority wants it to pass. But, Republicans have the opportunity to stop a bad bill if enough citizens testify in person, submit written testimony or contact the Senators on the Committee to voice their opposition to this bill.
Citizen engagement in Oregon in 2025 is crucial to restoring our freedoms and securing our liberties!
